That all depends on how the female you are dating would feel about you taking another girls number. You normally would exchange numbers to get to know each other better. If you plan to do that and include your girlfriend then no it is not cheating. If you don't plan on including your girlfriend and you sneak around or hide, it can lead to cheating.

It's really simple- anything you do that you feel guilty about in a real relationship is cheating because it means that you have hidden motives and therefor have the hidden desire to want do something that isn't with your other half... get it.... Your pretty much cheating before you do the initial act because the intention and desire is there which causes the action of getting her number and if the motive wasn't there you wouldn't of even talked to her... really think about it..

It's the first step to cheating as you are indicating to her that you're interested. So technically you haven't cheated yet but you might if you act on it. I wouldn't like to be your gf to find out if you do as just posting this question indicates you realise the potential of your actions.
