I think closing is definetely worse, the only problem is if you open you may have trouble getting relieved so you can go. But i think it would be better to get up early and deal with that then go home and take a nap.

Okay, I've been working in retail for six years so I know all about Black Friday. I'd rather work closing. Yeah, it's a lot of clean-up, but then you get the customers out of the way and have a little fun with your co-workers. And I'm a night-owl anyways. The morning shift is harsh on the nerves. You're tired, know it's gonna be a long day, and see people waiting as soon as you get there. And yeah, they are rude as hell. But newbies to retail should work an opening shift. If you can handle Black Friday early bird door busters, you can handle ANYTHING!

I'd say that evening would be worse. If you opened it will be very busy and you'll probably have to come in early, however, there's some chance that you'll get off work somewhere close to the end of your shift. If you close, you'll be there indefinitely - until you can push the last shoppers out of the door and clean up the messes that have been left throughout the day. I'd rather have some idea of how long I must be there, so I can have a goal to work toward throughout the shift.

I worked in retail years ago.....from my experience during the holidays and Black Friday (the worst) I much rather deal with the early morning frenzies.....with the last shift in the evening you end up staying so late because the customers usually leave the place look like a disaster. Recommend early shift.....you don't have to deal with the cleanup......I'd rather deal with the customers any day!

Having also worked retail it really all depends on what kind of person you are. If you are anything like me you would rather do evening shift, I rather clean up a mess than deal with all the customers ungrateful attitudes. I actually almost lost it on someone and came close to getting fired one of the days I opened.

I'd much rather deal with the cleaning up and closing. People are in such a frenzy for those early bird specials! It's as if when the doors open, they leave their social skills outside.

I worked retail 20 years. Most recently at Macy's.
I would say the evening shift. Most of the time, many stores do "specials" in the morning.
In addition, most customers tend to come in the morning anyway.
Evening is much better although the stores usually close late!
Have fun!

At my store, you usually don't go home to the store is presentable which means staying longer than expected. Although that may be good OT, you sure do get tired. So I took a 6 AM shift. I'm hoping the fittingrooms may be semi-quiet at that hour. Then I can leave when my shift is over.

Closing! Getting ready for the frenzy is easier than the big clean up at the end and trying to get them to leave at closing time.
