No, you will need a Passport from the country you are born from or country of citizenship.
Please do not take a foolish gamble going across without a Passport. Coming back to good honest BUSHITE USA country WILL become an issue.

It depends on where you are from. If you are from a country which the Canadian govt requires to have a visa to visit, yes you still need a visa. It may be easier to get if you have a green card, but you still need a visa.
