Since he faints now and is not drinking he needs to see a doctor and be evalutated. I haven't heard of anything that can be used to repair brain damage. Vitamins would probably be good for his general health and after years of drinking he is probably anemic anyway. Talk to a doctor about iron pills and general vitamins.

The best vitamins he could take would be the "B-complex" group of vitamins, which is the complete "B" group, 1-12 and make sure they include Thiamine. Those vitamins are all very important in repairng the nuerological damage done from alcohol. These vitamins help the brain neurons fire better, sort of like spark plugs in a car. It is the neurons firing back and forth to each other that enables the brain to function. All that alcohol has eroded those nuero pathways. But he STILL should see a doctor. An MRI probably is not going to help though; what he probably needs is an ECT or a PET scan. PET scan is a computer color coded brain imaging technique, but unfortunately, VERY expensive. ECT would be a better bet.

depends on how long he has drank. he could be a dry alcoholic. which means its like hes still drunk but hasn't drank and his brain thinks he has. i don't know of any cure for an alcoholic asfar as repairing the brain cells once there gone there gone. but yes a MRI will be good because there could be something else going on with the brain or maybe his blood pressure is too high or possibly too low which will make you faint, but he really needs to go to a Dr. i would try to talk him into going to one if at all possible. and i think its great hes been clean for a year! good for him!

There no treatment for brain damage. Your father needs to go to the doctor's I don't think that fainting has anything to do with alcohol or his quiting. Get all the family to confront him, tell him how much he is loved and try to get him to a doctor. Hope this helps.

Hmmm... Brain damage from any kind of problem is not reversable... the least your father can do is to get it checked out by a physician and work out a treament plan.
