Religion is man's way to reach God. Religion fails because nothing we can do can reach God besides accepting what He has done. We think that if we make some feeble attempts that we have an "in" but what we miss is that it was finished on the cross what is needed for us to be with God.

Religion was Man's first means of explaing the forces that affect him. It started from simple explanations of fire, lightning, wind, animal migration, seasons, etc. As Man gained sophistication, it explained principles of right and wrong. Finally, it dealt with abstract issues such as eternity, the nature of the universe, and things we cannot detect with our senses. (Philosophy and natural philosophy -- science -- arose from this, but it is only tangential to the question.) Finally, there are some things that may never be explained by philosophy and science; some will remain the realm of religion alone.

Religion is... the attempt to understand the unknowable.

Lord Krishna Played his transcends Flute which gave the Aum sound vibration which went into lord Brahmas ear to receive the information how to create the Universe. Krishna is God. And Lord Brahma is a servant of God who created it under Lord Krishna's instructions. So Brahma is the Co-creator. We came here on our own free will. 0nly 1/4Th of the souls come here because we envied Gods position. There is no hate or envy in the spiritual world so he let us come to the material creation to try to be like Him. Of course we can never be completely Him. We are only minute expansions of Him. After many many birth we become frustrated and exhausted with trying to control and lord it over material nature. Eventually we cry out for help to understand everything. Like you are now. Which means you are near the end. Go to http://www.stephen-knapp.com for how to get the heck out of illusion and come back to eternal blissful reality

Religion.......... I will talk about my religion, and since you have raised the topic of God's role.... first that one.

There are things that are well beyond our imagination. Like it is in the visible universe around us, more apparently, we tend to think that 'every thing that has a beginning has an end'. Well my dear friend there are lots of questions in that statement itself. So I shall make an attempt to show you that which I think. How did anything got created at all. Where did the huge 'ball' that underwent the 'Big Bang' come from? What holds the laws of the world?

God is so great. He has veiled himself from us. He will of course show himself at a promised time. (after the judgement day)

God has no beginning and no end. He is nothing like we can imagine. He cannot be compared to nothing of this world.

You are his creation. He is your master. You are a slave. He knows what lies before you and that which is in your mind. He knows that which you disclose and that which you hide. Nothing is hidden from him. And you cannot gain anything of his knowledge save that which he wills you to know. Who is there who might intercede with him, save with his will? To him belongs all that is in heaven and all that is in this world. Neither Slumber seizes him nor sleep. Master of the day of judgement.

You have come from Allah and to Allah you have to return.

Coming to the second part.....
Verily, you have to tread the path that he prescibes, for there is apt reward in it. And for those, who reject the plain truth, is severe punishment. Punishment that they have been promised of in advance should they not follow the straight path.

For those who question the credibility of even one of His commands, let it be known that surely the Lord knows more than you. So Humble yourself and fall in prostration.
Read his Word. That which was sent down to mankind as a message of peace and righteousness.

Coming to what he wants you to do.......
He wants you to surrender to his will. To thank him for all that he gives you. Seek his help in times of hardship. Remember him. Fear him, love him. Struggle to please him.
Open the Book yourself and read what he has commanded of you. If you don't do what he says, if you turn away it will not effect him in any manner. He does not need that you worship him. You need to worship Him. He is Merciful, Clement.

Religion is a defensive mechanism against the unknowable and depressed. You turn to god when things go badly or you don't understand them. Hence why Christians hate evolution so much.. they had a nice and pretty explanation for why we're here.

The word "Religion" means "to bond". Most people bond to a set of rules and dogmas, rather than a god.
