I have had some serious issues with my left eye for years. It turns red and sometimes hurts pretty badly. It's not pink eye (in my situation, at least). Are you feeling any pain or is it like a "strained" feeling? This is what happens to mine and to help it, I was told to take Milk Thistle (herbal supplement, over the counter). It works for my eye problem, but it's for flushing out the liver! Weird, I know, but it works every time for me. I only need 750 mg for a day or two and it goes away.

I had an accident one time and got a needle scratch on my eye (long story but I was trying to fix my nose piercing and totally miscalculated thus scraping it!) and my homeopathic specialist gave me rosewater. I simply dipped the rosewater with a sterile cotton ball (you could also apply with a dropper) and put about three drops in my eye. I did it three times a day and after a few days it totally cleared up. Rosewater is a good natural remedy for all kinds of eye related problems. But also remember to wash your hands frequently and not to touch the other eye after you touched the red one as it could be 'pink eye' which spreads. Keep it nice and clean and it should clear up.

is it painful or oozing gunk? If yes, then it is probably pink eye. Your doc needs to prescribe an antibiotic for it. .... But if it just red, with out the pain and gunk, it could be an allergy to something. Try some visine, they have several different types. ... Sometimes colds can settle into your eyes, but that will usually cause gunky eyes, too. ...
Pink eye will feel almost like you have grit in your eye. very uncomfortable

if the eyeball itself is red, it might be a little bleeding on the surface. If the eye is itchy and the eyelids are red, it might be pink eye. If in doubt, have a health care provider look at it. you don't want to risk your eyes

there is a saying that ONE red eye is much more serious than 2.
if it hurts, like face pressure, could be inflammatory eye disease.
if itchy, could be something like allergies.
go 2 a doctor, take it from me, do not mess around waiting

If you don't have something in it, you probably have pink eye, a very contagious eye infection. An Eye Dr. needs to prescribe an antibiotic cream for your eye.
