My dad is severely overweight and every time I try to talk to him about it he gets angry and starts to yell. How should I go about it?

A lot of you have mentioned grandchildren while that might work if circumstances were different but I do not plan on having kids and he knows it. Plus I am an only child so there really won't be any little ones.

He knows that he is overweight and does not like it. I was overweight at one time. My mom would bring it up ( now i know its because she does care about me). I would get upset, cry and yell because i knew what she was saying was true. Sit down with your dad and try to tell him that you love him very much and that you are worried about his health. tell him that you want him to be around for his grandchildren. maybe you could say "hey dad i want to go for a walk, want to join me?" he prob wont take it so personally and he can get some exercise. Good luck Hun.

This is really a hard subject. I know from my past when I weighed 300 lbs. I knew I was overweight but i didn't want anyone else to tell me. This worked for me maybe it will help you with your dad. my mama sat me down one day and she told me I love you very much and i want you to be around for a long time.Another suggestion name grandchildren. If all else fails talk to his dr. and see if he has any suggestions. Good luck.

Why don't you goin him in a gym? Don't bring up his weight, just say youd like to go jogging with him or to go for a short walk. Also, you could get him off whatever he's eating that is making him heavy by giving him a granola bar or cooking him something healthy. Also, check with the doctor to see if he has any health issues.

I know someone whose mom was overweight. She told her that she wanted her around for a long time. She assured that she loved her and meant well for her.

She helped to find the Atkins diet and her mom has lost so much weight and looks great.

Be his support person and do not nag him. He will feel more self-conscious about it then.

Tell him that you want him to be a part of his grandchildrens lives. If he continues this way, he won't be around.

sometimes it takes tough love to get our loved ones to hear us,so take him for a drive and go by a grave site and ask him which spot does he want, cause unless he takes his health problems more serious he's looking at his new home, but do stress that u are doing this because of your love for him.

tell him that u really care for him and thus he must lose weight or else it would be difficult to get him out of that.make him understand the after effects of overweight.

Sometimes there just isn't a lot more that you can do. You've expressed your concern, he is aware of it, now it's up to him whether he will change or not.
