I agree with the first guy; you should cross them if you are wearing a short skirt as to not show and (ahem) parts. Other than that there is no one I know of saying women SHOULD or HAVE TO cross their legs. I do it all the time (I am right now) out of habit because it is a comfortable position, but if it is uncomfortable to you, by all means, don't do it! :)

That old rule dates back to the time when all women wore skirts or dresses. Since skirts and dresses don't have inseams like pants do, the leg crossing was necessary to keep others from seeing your underwear. If you don't feel comfortable crossing your legs for whatever reason, you can sit with them together (if wearing a skirt or dress). When wearing pants, things are much more relaxed(just don't sit spread-eagled). Truth be told, I don't think crossing your legs is healthy in your case. When your feet fall asleep, it's due to a lack of circulation in them and that's not good.

Well the only reason why I would suggest for a woman to keep her legs crossed is if she was wherein a very short skirt and although I know this does not seem fair, infuriatingly there are plenty of perverts ever where and I know you more than likely don't want a Jeffery domer looking up your skirt. As far as any other clothing, I don't think it would matter. Take care sugar!

So you can't see up my skirt... If I'm wearing trousers I still cross my legs though. Its just habit that is passed down the generations. A bit like with men how they sit with their legs wide open!, or with their foot resting on their other knee. Its passed down through the generations, it's just natural and most comfortable.

It is unhealthy to cross your legs, it is bad for your circulation. If you are wearing a skirt that is so short that you must cross in order to keep from showing your cooch, then you shouldn't be wearing that skirt or you at least shouldn't be sitting while wearing that skirt. Women generally cross their legs because we learn by example and it's comfortable for some of us but if you don't like it don't do it, i don't think it's required especially if you are wearing pants.

I've always seen it as a sign of modesty and virtuousness. And I have to admit that, as a guy, I think it looks nice when women cross their legs. But...if you don't want to cross them, that's fine too (but if you're wearing a skirt or dress, you will definitely want to keep those legs together for obvious reasons).

It is polite for either gender. Gentlemen often cross their legs as well.

Women more often cross their legs because they learn early on that it shows modesty and self-respect by preventing others from seeing up their skirt when seated.

Other than that, many people of both genders find it comfortable to rest one leg over the other.

You should be able to sit with your knees together, ankles crossed. If you are wearing something that will uh.. put you on display by having your knees together, then you shouldn't be wearing it anyway.

Ever see Basic Instinct? The ho in it showed the whole world her crotch when she uncrossed then recrossed her legs. The act of crossing your legs actually OPENS UP your skirt for people to peek inside. Try it right now and see for yourself.

My mother taught me years ago that a woman crossing her legs looks "common and awkward." I was taught to sit with legs together or ankles crossed. In addition, your back should be straight and your shoulders up. My mother has always been a very regal looking woman and I think she gave good advice.

If you hate it, don't do it. Who cares how you sit? If someome is really judging how ladylike you are based on whether or not your legs are crossed, they're not worth wasting your time on anway. There is so much more to being a respectable woman than how you sit. You shouldn't worry about it, and neither should anyone else, as long as you're not showing off anything you shouldn't be.
