Grease fell onto it and caused it to flame up.

There could have been built up grease or food on the elements or there could be a faulty element. Id call the manufacturer and se what they had to say.

10 to 1 -something splatterd on it & it was burning off. Keep an eye on it- but it shouldn't happen again.

It was dirty.
