I am not sure but I would guess that the polyester will hold up a little better than the paper through all of the movement of the windings. Adding to that, the mineral oil used for cooling the transformer may deteriorate the paper as well.

All of the above is speculation based on what I have observed

We use Polyester film insulation instead of using Paper foil in transformer in order to prevent EDDY CURRENT LOSS. NOTE: Paper is also a insulator...

polyster is less vulnerable to high temperature and provides more stability to the transformer during high voltage.

I suppose it's economical and more lasting than paper foil.

Poly=plastic. It is non-conductive,therefore safer.
