I don't know why but I've noticed that I'm the only person who lives by a routine or rhythm in my life and like to keep it that way.

I guess I just don't understand how people work without one and would like to know.

Is it that people are against routine or just they don't choose routine for themselves?

I'm just curious.

I have plenty to live for. It's not like a block off all my time but things that I do daily--I like them to do at a certain time everyday. Such as bedtime, bath time, story time, meals, and so on. I just don't know how people don't do things the same time everyday that's all.

I think that a routine and schedule are the best way to raise a child. Not only do the parents get a chance to look forward to "nap time from 12 to 2", or dinner at 5:30, but the kids do too. Every day life goes much smoother with structure, boundaries and limits. Kids need to know what they can do, and when.

We have such a good routine at my house that the kids come running when we say "Bed time, everyone!" There is never a fight or protest. We hug them, read for a minute and they love to lay down and wait for us to cover them up with the blankets.

My sister on the other hand has no routine of any kind for herself or her kids. Her schedule changes by the minute according to what SHE wants to do. Her children are very stand-offish and seem really insecure because of it.

I think that her reason for not having the routine is out of pure selfishness. She doesn't keep her children's best interest in mind.

I'm not really sure, I find that routines tend to make things much easier and more organized. I think its really good fo rkids to have routines to. Its good for everyone. Some people over do it though, like 7:15 get up, 7:20 have teeth brushed ( it doesnt have to be by the minute). And many seem to under do a schedule or routine. Maybe their lives are so busy they don't have time to even prepare one, or simply dont care. lol. At the rate that people go that very well could be teh case, they just continue to go go go (like workaholics) and so they don't use a shechdule they just get so caught up in work exc. Well i gave it a shot and thats the best i can do. But routtines are great.

I think routines and schedules are good because they help prepare children for their future- like in school, where everything is a routine or procedure with a certain schedule. But, everyone learns differently, and there isn't just one way of getting things done. Also, what works for one family may not work for another. Some families like spontaneity, while others live and die by a schedule. The problem occurs with overscheduling everything and not allowing for any free time- that is, not allowing a child to be a child. You just have to do what works best for you and your children and have their best interest at heart.

my life is so crazy i can't live by a schedule. Until recently I was a full time student and worked my wife was having a high risk pregnancy, and i had an intern ship. Everyday was different and i could not control it. Now my life is a little more stable but even with that i just can't find myself going to sleep at the same time or even eating at the same time. I even don't wake up at the same time because each day i have something different to do. Twice a week i have to wake up an hour early because of stuff.

I'm a list person and a schedule person. I find that if I don't keep lists or make schedules then I cannot keep it all straight in my head. Having said that, I use my schedules as a general guide line. I keep our schedule posted in the kitchen and I let it guide my day but I'm also flexible. If I have to veer from the schedule that is fine. I'm okay with it. I just like to have a time line to help me keep organized. Otherwise I'm rather scatter brained.

As far as eating on a schedule, I really encourage people to do this. We have meal and snack times that are scheduled. We eat the same times every day. But we do this because it is healthy.

Some people actually like living by the seat of their pants, I guess. Others enjoy and anticipate surprises in their lives. I, too enjoy schedules, but not necessarily routines. This comes from being a control freak.

Some people don't need routines and schedules. I personally would find it boring. The only schedule and routine in my house is when homework has to be done and bedtime.

I like not knowing what is going to happen from one day to the next . Beside every time I tried to have a routine I have to keep changing it for a very bussy life with children. Ialso find routins boring.

Because life would get boring if anyone went by a schedule. I prefer not too. Just because i don't wash the dishes at the same time everyday does not mean my life is not in order or i don't get things done.
If i had to do the same things at the same time each day i would go crazy.
I have my kid in bed before a certain time. Sometimes life gets in the way of cooking at the same time each day.

Consider yourself a woman of discipline. You must get a lot done.

I'm not going to slam on those with no schedule, but just pick ONE area in your life and put on a regimen and that part WILL improve.

If you are lucky enough not to have to be organized then more power to you - but routines and rhythm give one an efficient, and eventually happy, life, once you get used to it.
