Well, that's a big question and I'm bad for long answers so as to be thorough but simply put; the first man Adam sinned which brought sin to the human race and physical death. The first sacrifice made it to where that blood, wherein is the issues of LIFE, substituted for their own immediate life because God could not fellowship with man unless their was an atonement for sin. The first sacrifice made them some decent clothes of skins which God Himself designed and tailored to cover their nakedness so they would know what pleased Him and that is He cannot fellowship with sin and uncleanness or look at nakedness because He is 100% pure and holy. Long story short, the solution for the sacrifice of animals needed to be done by those who had sinned and wanted their sins covered, redeemed, atoned for, and basically forgiven by God. Jesus became that sacrificial Lamb because it was foreordained from the beginning of time for Him to give His perfect pure life's blood for the atonement of all man-kind. You must ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins before you are washed and clean and then you must obey His commandments. You needn't be babtized except after you really know without a doubt that you have peace, joy, and no longer a desire to sin but to please God and then it is only symbolic that the old man, the fleshly sinful nature, has been killed. He died because He loves us so much, like a Shepherd loves His sheep and because He wants us to be with Him in heaven as His bride. Do you think you would want to lay your life down for the most hideous criminal on death row today?? Jesus did. Could you forgive the person who committed horrible crimes against you or yours? He did. He wants to live in our hearts and he took our punishment for us but if we don't accept his atonement, He cannot be our High Priest (between us and God) and be our Lawyer on judment day when everyone will give account for the deeds done in this body. He truly wants us to live for and love Him but it's our choice and he made the way so we could approach God's presence through the blood of His son so that God only sees the pure, the clean, the holy, the righteous. Does that help? Get a New Testament or read the Bible on-line at Studylight.org.

I'm not very religious but I do look at the history. The method of his death really doesn't matter, people get hung up on the Crucifixion but the means was not the point. The point was his sacrifice at the hands of others that he could have stopped had he denounced his own claim of being the son of God. He wouldn't do that. Again the death wouldn't have meant anything if the resurrection hadn't been witnessed by so many. It was the resurrection that proved the miracle for believers. The sins of men are only washed away as you say by the total acceptance of Jesus as part of the holy trinity, you have to believe to be saved. One thing is certain, that man's appearance whether you are Christian or not changed the world. No denying that.

The point is that the ritual sacrifices are no longer necessary. No, you are not automatically saved since salvation is a gift that you have to choose to receive. Free will is the name of the game. I, personally, don't understand or care for football, so what if someone said the only channel I could get was a football channel? I wouldn't like that very much. I want to choose!

So... you accept the gift of his death (become born again) and hopefully, but not mandatory, you get baptized. Baptism is symbolic of our acceptance of the death and resurrection in comparison of our giving up our sinful ways and starting over in a better life.

I don't know if that cleared up anything for you, but I hope it answers someone's question.

When Jesus died, the veil that seperated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place in the temple was torn from top to bottom. That opened the way for every believer to go into God's presence. Prior to Jesus' death only the high priest could go into God's presence, and then only one a year with the blood of slain animals to cover and atone for his sins and the sins of the people. It is significant that the veil was torn from top to bottom. The veil or curtain was so high and thick that no human could have torn it. It was torn supernaturally by the power of God, showing that He was opening up a new and living way for Hid people to approach him.

Luke 23:39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

Luke 23:44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.

The instant you accepted Jesus as Savior is when you were saved. The "theif on the cross" was never baptized.

Baptism is a public declaration by you that you have accepted Jesus as your Savior.
Born again is a process of growing in your relationship with Jesus, and growth in your Christian walk.

My friend, my understanding is that Jesus died for the sins of the 'world'....not just for us churchy people. We didn't choose God,rather he chose us and allowed the devil to spiritually blind
everyone else. And how could God, being kind and merciful allow those who are blinded to burn in agony forever and ever? Yes, you are covered by the blood of Jesus and will get your shot at salvation if not in this life, the next when Jesus calls you out of your grave. Then you will have his holy spirit put in you and you will see him in the flesh. Then you will be taught God's ways during the 'thousand year peace' where the devil and his boyz will be locked away, and won't be around to hinder you. Your test will come at the end of the thousand years. I know there will be lots of Christians who disagree with me, but that is the great wonderful news of the Bible. As they say; Open your bible, free gift inside! God bless

By exercising Faith in Jesus sacrifice we can enjoy clean standing before God, and come under his loving tender care.(Revelation7:9,10).
Many of us have committed terrible sins before we learned about God. And even now we make mistakes, sometimes very serious ones. But we can freely seek forgiveness from God on the basis of the ransom, with the confidence that he will hear us(!John2:1,2) Also,in the days ahead, the ransome will open up to us the way to receive the the Gift of everlasting life in his righteous new world.(2Peter3:13). At that time all those exercising faith in the ransom will be released completely from bondage top to sin and death. They may look forward to life forever in perfection! You are right baptizm does not wash away sins only Jesus ransom sacrifice does that, and it is not automatic I hope I explained this to you adequately if not ask again by email Warm Christian Love Vesna

You don't have to get baptized by water to be saved, you merely have to believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, turn away from sin by accepting him, in your life. the sacrifice that he did for us, was sufficient, theres a history behind sacrifices in the old testamnet, instead of us sacrificing animals for firgiveness, Jesus did it for us using himslef. so we when we become born again we actually ask God to help us be saved, which is to have him in ourlives, and guide us. then from that point on, he will... then baptizing with water is to show the world(people) an outward testimony that you r christian, however it will not save you. its like everytime we sin we nail him back on the cross..it did wash ur sins away, but we need to turn away from sin, to be saved forever... only, only with God's help is that possible...

First of all, Christ did not die for all mankind. He died for those that the Father had predestined.

Baptism does not save, nor is it something that man does for God. It is is a sign and a seal of God's covenant with his people, and a replacement for Old Testament circumcision.

Most of your answers have been from the Baptist side of the fence and an Arminian/Pelagian point of view. I thought I would give you the Calvinist side of the argument, which may address your question more adequately.

The blood of bulls, rams, goats, sheep, and others where a covering, an offering for their sins. But, the lamb of God ( Jesus ) took away our sins. Jesus died on the cross for you and I, read the book of Hebrews, this will help you to understand. The blood of the Lamb washes away your sins so that you may repent, be baptized and born again. The point of his death was to save all of us, He loved us that much to give his life for us.
