Positivism died in the 1940s and was burried by the 1960s. You should know this, since positivism is part of Enlightenment thinking. (See Thomas Kuhn, Structure of Scientific Revolutions; also "underdetermination of theory" or Quine-Duhem Thesis).
Religion will play the role it has always played since the beginning of mankind. It will also have to pick up the slack of predicating metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics in a world left empty after logical positivism's demise. As usual. It always did.

if we lived in an enlightened state of being there would be no need for religion as we would all realise that religion was what held our enlightenment back. don't think that i'm an athiest or anything like that. i belive in god and jesus and bhudda and mohammed and crishna but i also believe that religion has been tainting our faiths. religion has been used to cover to many evil acts. todays terrorists are using islam as their front. in the middle ages the crusades used christianity as their excuse for the slaughter of thousands. it's not right, it shouldn't be. religion has tried to structure our faiths and it is detroying them.
