This was stated in another post and I am curious about the details. Who were the authors of this crime fighting literary device? Did they get paid by a government? Who did it control? The more details the better. Maybe even a link. Thanks.

the stories and laws within the first testament were mostly written by scribes who were being told to write by the wealthy. almost every lesson written in the first testament is meant to make for a more civilized and more peaceful society. for example: the rich were afraid that the lower class would rebel. so the put "the meak shall inherit the earth" to make them feel less hostile.

The ten commandments, as Lewis Black eloquently put out, were designed to get the Jews in line back when they were a really rowdy group of people. The New Testament doesn't really follow from the same purposes; it was more the purposes of *opposing* the current order (Rome, etc)
