What do you consider a decent tip in a restaurant or for services?
I know what people in the service industry in my area consider standard, and was curious what you think.

Around here, 18% is about the minimum, 20% is decent. 15% is almost an insult...

I never give less than $5, even for a pizza delivery. For a nice restaurant, $10+.

Seeing that waiters and waitresses get well below minimum wage plus tips, for good service I give 25 to 30%. For mediocre service I leave 10 to 15% depending on how busy the restaurant is. If the server just doesn't care 5%. When I return to the same place you can believe I am remembered and the ones who didn't do well pick up the tempo and attitude. I always treat wait persons well. I used to walk in their tired shoes. I always gave a smile and good service. As in my case I always went the extra mile for my good tippers.

I generally give 15 percent unless the order is really small then more since they have to do the same amount of work.

Just curious, what area is 15 considered almost an insult? I thought that was standard.

A gratuity is suppose to be a compliment on good or exceptional service. It is expected that one gives 15% for basic service in the US sometimes it is even added into the price. Some countries, especially in Europe the tip is always included and others like Egypt it is even worse, you have to tip (pay) for any service you wish to receive or is provided for you.

I only tip at a restaurant, I never do for anything else because that's the employee's job and they get overpaid anyways (delivery personnel specifically). I might if I received exceptional service but usually it is as good or worse service than what one expects. A waiter or waitress is assumed to make part of their salary on tips this is why they can be paid wages below minimum wage.

When I was in college a few years back. 15% was standard and 20+% for excellent.

My minimum tip is currently 20% unless the service is crap.

I in simple terms observed it a pair of weeks in the past. My well known area grew to become into on the top whilst she asked her 2 girlfriends if that they had ever considered a extra eye-catching toddler. It makes me so excited to fulfill my little guy whilst he's provided in April i won't be able to attend to sense that overwhelming love.

Between 10 and unlimited.
10% is expected...even for crappy service.
20% for great service.

I've tipped way higher than 20%, when the entire experience was outstanding.

I asked the lady at the Olga's that I went to what customary tipping was, and they said about 10 or 15%.
