Is this a hypothetical question? I sure hope so. I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig to test this one. :)

Like shooting a human, only uglier. Spider silk proteins in the muscles and organs would reduce bullet penetration slightly, but there is still bruising to worry about. Besides, spider silk is only strong because of the way the strands are structured. It would have to be hairlike strands inside the tissue. Still, you probably would get notieable penetration with everything bigger than a .22, in my guesstimate. Spider silk is strong and flexible and might be useful against bullets, but it needs to be hard to stop edged weapons. Give it bits of bone under its skin like giant sloths to deal with melee attacks.

I'm sure you could make something pretty badass with a little more genetic engineering. A spider silk coating over chitinous shell to act like a ceramic catcher plate? Spider silk reinforced flesh underneath? Might work, but would be heavy. You'd need to boost muscle strength too, and there would be fundamental limits anyway. Regular humanoid skeleton for added support underneath exoskeleton? It would look like what you described, only slightly freakier and more badass.

The Silk-covered Humanoid Spiderboy, or SHL, woud be pretty badass. Bullet resistance up to, say, 7.63? Edged weapons would be useless. Never mind how hard it would be to make, but a fellow could...

Good luck with the book!
