There have been many times that I have needed a police officer, but they always give me some lame excuse on why they cant help me. For example, when I was 16, me and my sister were jumped and beaten up by a 30 yr old woman and man. We went to the police, but all they could say is it was our word against theirs. Here is a second example, my radio was stolen from my car, all they said was to file a police report, they didnt show any interest in trying to patrol my area due to other thefts. Yet another example, things were being stolen from my garage space at my apartment. My outdoor rug, the brakes taken off of my bike, my mail. Are these things not important enough for them? Why do they find it so important to stake out near the side of the road and wait to catch people going 2 miles over the spped limit, not using a turn signal, etc, but cant help a citizen who is being violated by thieves? Where are their priorities? Is meeting a quota more important than protecting citizens?

It is because of cops like clsga that all cops get a bad name. Hey if you hate your job so much find another one. We certainly dont need lazy scum like you patroling our streets. Theyd rather eat donuts and sit on the side of the road than actually work.

I am the son of a police officer veteran who served for twenty years on a very active and intense force
And, knowing my Dad very well (he will have his 95th birthday next week on the 22nd) he served with honor and distinction
After all that time and the experiences that it afforded him---he has this to say about the service that some officers give to their job------
He says that whatever a man is---BEFORE he puts on the badge and gun---will be enhanced by a quotion of at least five times----if the man is an absolute jerk----that times five---if he is an ignorant dork or a wise butt---that times five----BUT at the same time-- if he is an unright and solid individual-- that will come out in his service --- times five
He also says that the saddest thing about all of it is the fact that just one such dork within the system will taint the views of hundreds of people in no time at all toward ALL police officers and that a lot of the time the "turned sour" feelings of people done wrong will NEVER be retrieved by what ever good police officers will EVER be able to say or do
I might say here (and this is the absolute gospel truth) --- I get stopped in supermarkets and resturants and the mall and a hundred other places each and every year to this day by people who come up and ask if I am L W s son---when I say that I am-- they proceed to tell me of some incident that my father was involved in in helping them out in a special way or tell me of how when they were kids-- my Dad advocated for them in some way-- and almost always leave with the statement that they'll never forget the special help that he had been for them----just thought I'd slap this into the mix in the middle of all the cop bashing !!!!

larry well said

Stop the cop bashing, If you don't like what law enforcement does, i challenge you to either put up or shut up. I gaurentee you, a month in an officers shoes, and you will see law enforcement in a new light, and realize that the amount of good given to the community is an exponential amount, for a job that is most often thankless.

You are entitled to your opinion and I'm sure that anything I write in defense of the police won't change it. It sounds like you've had a long string of bad luck with the police. I can only offer some advice.....invest in some locks and drive carefully.

We're just like that, you know? I'm normally out writing tickets so I can get a raise.

Rather write tickets than listen to people b***h.
***************************
It's called sarcasm. We don't have quotas, we respond to calls when we get them even the ones dealing with idiots, I don't get paid based on how many tickets I write, etc. etc. etc

Two days ago, a mother and daughter wondered in my department. Said they were out of gas and hadn't eaten in over 36hrs. I got up from my meal (without finishing) took them in my patrol car (against policy) and paid for their lunch out of my own pocket. Brougt them back to our office and while they ate their lunch, I took their car to the nearest filling station and filled it up with my own money. They thanked me and went on their merry way...

Am I special for this? No. I know plenty of officers who would have done the same thing. (Yes there are some as*holes in law enforcement. There are as*holes in every profession, doesn't mean everyone of them are.)

its not that they didnt think it was important but they could have other pressing matters like 911 calls ,accidents with ppl spattered all over the place,an amber alert,a serial killer lead, the list goes on

Policemen do not want work especially if the evidence is not easy to get. When the evidence is strong, they are not present or will avoid entertaining complaints. Policemen should exert effort in entertaining all complaints because their pay comes from the people whom they should serve instead of outrightly denying reacting to their grievances.
