my parents are treating me like crap. i went out and bought my little brother a new shirt. it was like a black kind of long-john type shirt and it was black and i thought it was really cool. my stepdad yelled at me and said it was a "girly" shirt. my mom liked it but as soon as i said that everyone else but my stepdad likes the shirt, my mom told me to stop talkin back. she switches to his side whenever he gets mad. he is also very abusive to my little brother. i try to just avoid them as much as possible, but im always getting yelled at. I just wanted to do something nice for my lil bro cuz we are very poor. my stepdad also said yesterday that my side and my opinion of everything is wrong...should i try to get emancipated? im 16 and have relatives i could move in with. im just worried about my brother in that abusive situation...and my mom is way better off with out my stepdad...they just had their 12 year wedding anniversery 2 days ago...what should i do??

in response to answer # 3...i am a terriffic kid. i have a 3.6 GPA and I have never been to Juvinile detention or even gotton sent to the principals office. I dont purposely upset my parents and my realationship with my brother is normal. i dont have a "negative impact" on anyone but my stepdad. i slave away every day to try to keep the house clean and all he does is make it a mess. he sleeps on the couch and watches tv all day while my mom stays on the comp and takes prescription meds she no longer needs. i just want the best for my family. if anything i have a positive impact on my little bro. im a good role model and im my mom's only child that hasnt gotton in trouble...

i would report him, but my family will HATE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!....its only 3 years til my brother can be emancipated and he can choose what relative to live with. maybe i could talk to the courts and get it ok'd for him to live with me..im moving out soon though and im worried for him....he'll have 1 1/2 years of this bullshi*

first of all, be brave. dont be afraid to talk back. defend yourself. stand up for your rights. if they kick you out, go find a friend, definately. if they submit to beating, i suggest you run out to escape it, and report it to the police or anyone else. if the situation is not THAT bad, just stand up for yourself and take some minor risks. talk to your stepdad or mom. or even, a counsulor. if they DO submit to beating, that is a bad sign. if they treat you like crap, stand up and say "your treating me badly" and u can add some other stuff to.
you always want to b happy, and if your parents get into your way, dont b afraid to push them a little.

Relationships between step children and step parents can get very hairy at times...I know, I'm a step Dad.
Please seek counseling... professional counseling like from your school counselors. They can be very helpful especially at your age and in your situation. After twelve years with your mom and your brother he may not be that bad a character and professional counselors can really help you seek more better answer for you than we here at Yahoo can be. Don't take it upon yourself to judge anyone's character. At the age of 16 all of us think we are 100% right, but none of us is perfect. And you just might have a very negative impact no only on you step dad, your brother, your mom but also on YOURSELF.

I feel bad for you and your situation. First I will say, Try not to talk back, it just makes your stepdad more mad. You might do better just agreeing with him all the time, like "Ok dad." Just know in your head you don't agree. I'm sure he always wins when you argue anyways.
If he is abusing your brother you need to report it. You could report to you school. Legally they have to look into it. They will do it without telling who reported him.

Well your step dad is entitled to his own opinion, and not every one has to like the shirt, but he sounds kinda like a dick.
