I always feel bloated! I'm so tired of it! Today I was feeling bloated after I ate some grilled chicken, steamed broccoli and yams; could that have been what made me bloated? I don't know. Sometimes my body is able to "pass it" and sometimes it can't, it's worse when I can't "pass it". It's very uncomfortable and it takes a toll on my self-esteem when I look like I'm pregnant or have a beer belly. I tried eliminating processed foods and salt from my diet, but I still feel bloated. Does anyone know where I can get more information on this? I saw a doctor about it and she said to eliminate dairy from my diet, I have and I'm still bloated! I don't know what else to do. I'm trying to find a list of high sodium foods to avoid, but I can't find any. Or maybe it's something else, I don't know. I used to take those gas-x pills and that didn't work at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This happens to me all the time. I have been to a gastoenterologist that diagnosed it as IBS. It's worse before my period, when I get too little sleep, or if I am under a lot of stress at work. It's best to go to a doctor to rule out any infections, flu, etc...

I have to eat rice, usually simple asian white rice is the most soothing. All of the veggies can make you bloating worse. Try taking Beano and eat foods that are cooked because these are easier to digest. Wear loose fitting waist in clothes, eliminate carbonated beverages, avoid artificial sweeteners and red food coloring. These have been determined to cause digestive track irritation. Best of Luck!

P.S. One more thing - yoga, stretching and bending will help eliminate (or alleviate) some of the trapped gas.

You might want to try taking a digestive enzyme tablet with each meal. I buy mine at the local health food store and it's called "Ultrazyme." It will help your digestive sytem work better to break down the food. Also, you might have candida of the digestive tract, so another thing that might help you is lactobacillus acidophilus. You can take that twice a day or one at each meal until you notice an improvement and then cut back to one a day. For that I use a product called PB-8, that doesn't have to be refrigerated (like most acidophilus has to be). You can find acidophilus at the health food store, too. If you have a fluid retention problem (and not gas), you should get your thyroid checked. My doctor said that a low thyroid can cause fluid retention. Hope you get better soon!

I know EXACTLY how you feel! You just described me about 3 years ago. I eliminated all kinds of crazy stuff from my diet and went to many doctors before finding out I have celiac disease. Celiac disease is an auto-immune disease that affects 1 out of 133 people. It is triggered by eating gluten (in wheat, rye, barley, and oats). The symptoms of CD can vary, but bloating is a very very common one. I actually had people ask me if I was pregnant when I wasn't! When people with CD eat gluten, it damages the small intestines and causes various symptoms, but ultimatly you quit absorbing nutrients. I would definatly talk to your Dr. about it. My life got soooo much better since my diagnosis! Good luck!

How's your water intake? Try to stay away from man-made juices and soda. Drink lots of water. This will actually make you feel bloated for a few days, but once your body adapts to all the water, you should feel fine.

Also, try walking for between 30 and 60 minutes daily. It will not only help you lose excess weight, but help your metabolism.

You said you are watching your salt intake are you also drinking at least eight glasses of water a day? You need to, to keep your body working at it's best. The only thing else I can add is to keep active. Exercise is important too. Look into volunteer work in your community for additional exercise and socializing to help pick up your spirits. This will help you not feel as tired too. I am a big believer in you mood having an effect on your health. Best of luck to you, hope this will help.

i will answer based on experience. yes, it does happen -- and it pays to visit a doctor. let him/her examine you and tell all cause and effects. you also have some good suggestions on these answers. but one thing if for sure -- no ONE but no one CAN tell you exactly what transpires in your stomach and body. you have to be your own doctor -- some food affect some us --generalizations are no good. yes, avoid "macaroni", quantity of food, bread, soft liquor etc. but in the final result only you will be able to determine which one of the food is harmful. the no.2 advice is -- after a heavy meal -- walk, walk, walk. that will make you feel better. last but not least read a lot --mayo clinic and other excellent web sites via search engines you are luck you live to-day because you have us to answer and you have plenty of information to digest.

Erin,
Slow down when you eat and eat a little less. I know when I eat to fast I have similar problems. Eating a lot of vegtables and fruit can cause you some problems too. Slow down, eat slowly and enjoy your food and take the time to chew your food completely.
