There's only one difference. Champagne is from the region of the same name in France and sparkling wine can be from anywhere.

The grapes for Champagne have to come from the Champagne region of France. All other regions produce sparking wine.

Examples:

Prosecco is an Italian Sparkling wine, from the Veneto region in Italy.

Cava is a Spanish sparkling wine

Champagne is sparkling wine made in the geographical zone of Champagne (France). If a sparkling wine is made somewhere else (lets say California) its called sparkling wine

sparkling wine is when they add carbon into the wine, and using a different method of fermentation, not using the champagne method, which is called the sparkling wine.

Champagne - when during the process they use champagne fermentation so it's called champagne.
