Water hose is quite extreme and I would certainly consider it abusive. To add insult to injury you were hit with something he used on the dog...I can certainly understand why it would bother you. Your father was of course sending a message that you were no more important to him than the dog. An awful message for a child to receive. I don't have an issue with spankings when they are properly applied as a small part of an overall behavior management strategy.

When I was little I was whipped by my asss hole of a father. I really hated him; and when I think about what he put us through I still do. My mama says not to say that but I do. He took his anger out on me and my family because he is a sorry excuse for a man. My advice: If you hate being around him avoid him, no one can make you feel less of a person. You control who you are not some sad as s excuse for a father that beats his own child and a helpless dog.

I am sure your Dad didn't love you any less, he just made a very bad choice at that time. I am not sure what your Dad's state of mind was back then but it seems as though it has made a major impact in your adult life.
The best way to try to resolve this is to ask your Dad why he did it and let him know that it really bothered you then and especially now? Hopefully he will answer you and then try to deal with his response. If he doesn't answer then the next best thing to do is meditate and ask your Savior to help you overcome this trouble.
Most importantly if you have children of your own DON'T do this to them not even remotely. I will also pray for you to overcome your pain.

I'm so sorry for you Jim. Your dad is a sick individual. Spankings are one thing, but that's abuse. Words are hard to use to help comfort someone at a time like this, but just try and move on and let all of your bad feelings go. Take care.

You're right! One should never, every use water hose to whip a dog. They're too small and defenseless. You could kill some breeds of dogs by hitting them with a garden hose! How awful for you to see a sweet little dog get whipped that way.

i'm sorry not anything you can do about it now. Just know it was wrong and don't keep the cycle going don't beat your children. If you are deeply bothered see a counslor or other support person to work thru this issue.

You might wish to talk to someone at your local community mental health clinic.
