I guess it depends on the relationship. If it's a long-term relationship, and I feel that the person I was dating would be comfortable, then I would answer the phone, take a message, etc. Basically, would I want him to do the same for me?

However, if it's someone that I've only recently started seeing, then I probably wouldn't answer the phone. It could seem a little rude and over-reaching.

If it was obviously the same person calling over and over. They are trying pretty hard to get a hold of him for some reason and, if he isn't there, you can explain to them that he is unable to answer the phone and will be available later.

If it was your cellphone ringing, and he was sitting there, would you want him to answer your phone? Do to him exactly what you would want him to do to you. If he answered your phone, you would feel offended because it would be a sign that he does not trust you. He will probably feel the same if you answered his phone. TRUST!

I would answer it - if it rang once and he wasn't there. It wouldn't have to keep ringing.
