What turned me off most about Christianity is that they think they are so correct. I can't stand the absolutism of the bible. Christianity is full of too many negative feelings and threats to convert or go to hell. I don't need that crap in my life. The world is hard enough as it is without having some god condemming you all of the time. It wasn't my fault that adam and eve fell. Why should I have to pay for it? Also the bible never addresses the fact that we were forced into existance. When we are forced, should we be held accountable? There are so many philosophical short comings in christianity and thats why I chose not to follow it.

Great question, I don't believe Christian's hinder progress.

I find that the teachings of the bible give us a very good base on how to treat all people (for all those who are unsure how Christians are supposed to treat other people it is very well - some Christian's however dont have this concept down pat.)

I can't do anything about the "I think I am correct thing" However I can back it up further than just because the Bible says so. Although for becasue the Bible says so does it these days, however I understand that other people need further information.

God is not condemning any one all the time. God has decided that we are all sinners and all fallen short of his Glory. He sent Jesus to rectify that so that we can be in relationship with him, and no longer conemned but convicted when we do wrong to be brought in to a stronger relationship with God. Christian's are people who have decided to have a realtionship with Jesus and therein turn are living to be like Jesus, we are told to be immitators of Jesus, and as far as I recollect Jesus didn't really talk about hell. I don't even know why people say that as it sounds like they are all out of combacks (or actual intelligent answers and then out of frustration say If you don't believe you will go to hell.

P.s you might like to check out my question about will your god let me go to your verision of paradise... so far nobody from a different stated religion has said that I would.

I would love to check out your philosophical short comings of Christianity. Thanks

"Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind."
-- Thomas Paine

"The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity."
"This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it."
-- John Adams

"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."
-- James Madison

Would you rather Christians were wishy-washy and subject to the whims of society? If you believe in something, it better be right, right?? God is not sitting up there condemning people. He wants everyone to come to Him and find salvation. The choice between conversion and hell is not a threat. It's a reality, and some people are very motivated to share about it. And it can come across negatively, as in your case. Each of us has done things which are not right, don't blame Adam and Eve for your own situation. God loves you, but he won't force you to believe. We don't want you to be forced into making a decision, it has to be a genuine commitment. You are free to choose for yourself. But don't say that Christians didn't try.

Please do not allude to the bible if you haven't read it. I used to use the same lines until I actually studied what was written as opposed to falling asleep or choosing to guffaw after reaching the 7th line of genesis chapter ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz....

We were never "forced" into existence, we were "granted" existence and "the right to choose" how we live it. by virture of "free will".

(And this statement is correct whether you are a godless evolutionist or a humble and loving creationist)
and you don't have to pay for it if you don't want to - quit complaining.

Do we not hold those responsible for war crimes if they were ordered to do a thing?

It sounds to me as though you are terribly unwilling to take responsibilty for anything in your past "it's everyone elses fault... we all know where that line of thought took Adam and Eve

Further - your questionha s nothing to do with the pontification found in your additional comments.

Was this a question you expected answered or were you simply venting against things that you don't like?

My life sucks as do the lives of many others who read your rant - but by free will we can read or write what we choose. It is man that puts limitations on that - not God. (and yes - even Americans and the constitution have no free will or rights which grant the freedom as ordained by God ON An Earthly Plane - try speeding and throwing a beer bottle at the cops and ask your self why the government doesn't forgive you while shaking your fist and saying "I DIDN"T CHOOSE TO BE BORN IN THIS COUNTRY - WHY SHOULD I FOLLOW THE RULES")

Anywhos' - i'm going to bed.

If you need a pound of flesh - ask God for forgiveness of your sins.

If you're perfect - then ask Him to forgive you anyway. Maybe you can trick him into believing you deserve eternal life.

At that point - when you walk through the pearly gates and see Adam - you can 'sack him' for all the misery that original sin heaped on your pure and innocent life.

sarcastic? probably - but it is tireing to see the same questions asked over and over. I will respect your question when it is genuine - as I have of others in the past - when it is not only a thinly veiled attempt to slander those who 'know' Gods truth in their hearts.

another thing that is important to point out.

When you are going to the boss at work with a problem - don't go without a couple of answers.

In the same manner - don't come to a believer and say "you're stupid for believing what you believe" withoug pointing out "why" and "alternatives"

I realize you are able to spell philosophical, however it is meaningly when combined with "shortcomings" and "christianity"

Is "Love they neighbor as yourself" a short coming... philosophically speaking?

Too many negative feelings....? Like what? What messages? Which lines? "Full"?

Your question reminds me of some calls I recieve on computer helpdesks.

"My computer is broken and it's the manufacturers fault"
"ok sir... are you recieving an error message"
"I NEVER READ THOSE - IT IS USELESS!"
""

Are you for real or are you pulling my leg?

Well, as a Christian, I want to apologize for the experiences you've had with Christianity and certain people. Hopefully, you'll come to realize that not all Christians are this way. The Bible moves me and helps me in so many ways, and I find God and Jesus comforting and full of love. But this is me. You can choose to follow whatever you like. The bible even says that it would be better for you to be cold to Jesus than to be lukewarm toward him. He gave us free will. But anyway, it's okay for you to believe what you like, but I don't think it's fair that you make such singleminded attacks on such a large group of people. How can you know every single one of us by judging the few?

What this a question, or a protest? Do you have a job? Why should some guy have to give you money for it? Just because you have to eat, why should some guy sell you food? It's just the way things are. And the fact that you're blaming everything on God, and none of the other religions out there suggest that you do believe.

I guess it all depends on the 'progress' you refer to.
And after reading your question I feel you have already answered
it your self.
I too, feel most christians are walking on a thin line, what with the
way they profess dedication, and at the same time most of them
live like the devil himself. I call this "Fake Christianity".
But I do know some really wonderful Christian people, so we must be careful 'not' to put them 'all; in the same boat.
After all, there are always 'good' and 'bad' in ALL of us.

So what does this have to do with progress?

A Jesuit Catholic Priest came up with the Big Bang Theory and Einstein liked him a lot. Isn't that some progress!

If Christianity isn't your cup of tea, so be it. You can do your own thing, that's what's so cool. We all have this free will. BTW I am a Christian and I don't hinder anyones progress with anything. Live and let live is my motto.
