Paint it a mild medium blue. That does not shout Look at me syndrome? Bright blue sky color maybe. Open air feeling.
have same paint color as the door is. Tan, or dark brown.
Eases thing to be welcomed into that room.

If you are concerned about "poison arrows" from the corners of the pillar, you can try softening the corners by training ivy to climb up the corners (or wind around the pillar, or flow down from the top). You could also use silk foliage.
Another remedy would be to see if you could sand down the corners so they are rounded.

Turn the house so that the door is on the east side of the pillar. Good vibes will result.
