I mean really remove the smell so she doesn't pee there anymore. Not fabeeze, not lysol, not soap and water...how to permanently remove cat urine from a down comforter. She thinks my bed is a litter box. It's gross. Thanks.

HI Amy....consider using Nature's Miracle for Cats which is found worldwide at any pet store. It's an enzymatic neutralizer that breaks down the urine proteins and neutralizing them by soaking the affected area then allowing to air dry. Heavily soiled areas require repeated applications.

Here's the website about this product: http://www.petmountain.com/brands/93/1/Nature's-Miracle.html

If you really want to get the smell out, I suggest you buy a new comforter because the stench of the cat pee will stay for a long time I assure you!

Try Petzyme. You can find it at pet stores in the Cat isle. It's made specifically for cat messes and works great to get rid of the smell.

Can you wash it in the washing machine...I don't know about the specifics of washing down, I'm allergic. But I had a cat pee on my brothers reg. comforter and I poured a bunch of baking soda with it in the wash and the smell came out.

Good luck

It might fit in the oversize washer at the laundromat--I do my king size in their, its a 22 & 1/2 oz blanket. Don't use liquid laundry detergent, though--use powder. Gain or Tide. The liquid coats the down feathers with residue and they get like a gel coating. Don't use hot water, use warm--and don't use a super wash cyle if you can use a gentler one. You can usually dryer dry them, too. I even do my Bromley down coat in the washer, and it says to just dry clean. But your can will keep peeing on it now that she/he started. That's cats.

You can go to the store and buy some cat pee stuff. But if it does not cost that much i would reccomend just throwing it away or and buying new. The washer might work to.

The smell went away after dry cleaning, but I never could get the stain out.

It's better to do it by hand with fabreeze & Bleech (if it's white, if not, use Oxyclean). If you throw it in your washer, you're likely to mess up the blanket, and you'll be cleaning out your dryer for quite a while.
