Unlikely, but... There are some schools of thought that say that repeated episodes of unipolar depression are just a form of bipolar that never gets above a normal baseline. Treatment with SSRI's (e.g. prozac) can then trigger mania.

There are also repreated episodes of unipolar derpession that have no bipolar links, so there's no consensus on this one.

Not necessarily. Often bipolar disorder is called manic depression and people alternate between a manic state and depression. Many people who have depression, which you might be referring to as unipolar disorder, and do not have bipolar disorder. For a more complete explanation, it would be good to talk to a mental health professional or browse reputable books or websites on mental health. In Canada, you can check out the website of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. I wish you all the best.

A lot of people who are really bipolar, are first diagnosed with unipolar depression. I don't think depression can "turn into" bp, but I think it can "turn out to be" bp.

It can turn into bi polar but I think in most cases it doesn't. (not a doctor here)
I was diagnosed with bipolar type II about two years ago. Prior to that I had been on anti depressant after antidepressant. Some people in my family have commited suicide and my brother has schizophrenia so I have some screwed up genes to begin with. but to answer question I think in my cases it does not progress into bi-polar.
