I am trying a new strategy on getting my 2 year old to sleep. I've heard warm milk can help, but I just want to make sure. Is milk (1% here) safe to warm up on the stove and drink? I want to give it to him to drink while going to sleep (yes I know this is not good, but I am breaking habits one at a time). Will this make him sick because it is warmed up?

At 2 years old, he doesn't need as much fat as he did when he was younger. babycenter.com

You should be giving full fat milk to a two year old.

But yes you can warm it up, it is the same warm as it is cold. (I wouldn't give it to him in a bottle though, just saying. Better he drink it and then brush his teeth and then go to bed)

my son just turned 2 last month and is still drinking whole milk. There is no reason why you can't warm up the milk a little. Now with that said it is a bad idea to give drinks to go to bed with as the drink stays in the mouth a little and can cause dental problems. Anything other than plain water will do this. You can give him warmed milk before bed as long as you brush his teeth after the milk.

He may just need to run around and burn off more energy during the day, or slightly change your routine, a nice warm bath right before with baby bath gel like baby bedtime bath gel, gerber and johnson's have a nice one, I do prefer the store brands scent better myself though.

When my daughter was 2, she had trouble settling down at night, and we did the same thing. Her Daddy would let her sit beside him in the recliner and I would make a "special" cup for her. I would put honey in a cup and warm it up in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Then I would put the cover on and shake the heck out of it to get rid of all the warm spots. My Mom used to do that for me when I was a kid, only she put chocolate in it. Still, to this day, our 5 year old will sometime ask for warm honey milk at night. It seems to sooth her. Didn't you ever make hot chocolate using milk? It's the same thing and it doesn't make kids sick at all. Just think about corn chowder of oyster stew...that's warm milk with butter.....and it's just fine on the good ole tummy! Good luck!

It's perfectly safe to warm his milk, he won't get sick unless he is lactose intolerant. Warming it up in the microwave is not as good for the milk as stove top heating but it won't hurt either, if it's more convenient use the microwave. The main thing is not to scold the milk which can happen however you heat it, just check it regularly as you do.
Another great way to help kids to sleep is to read him a short story at bedtime. As he gets older and he learns to read then you can take turns reading. We did that with our kids and they both take a book to bed with them now (one is 12 the othe is 9) and they usually fall asleep within 10-15 mins. It helps them to get to sleep and and regular reading at home really helps at school too.

Sure it's safe milk is only not safe if you let it sit around for a while, so i wouldn't leave the cup in his room overnight because he might drink it hours later once it has soured. Also just warm it in the microwave for 20 seconds but shake it first before you give it to him because the microwave heats unevenly.

I don't believe it will. Give him the milk by changing the temperature slowly. Then eventually gettting to give it to him warm. It makes no difference in children, but if you want to avoid sickness or anything like that. Then I suggest that you slowly make the change, instead of doing it all at once.

yes, milk is fine to be warmed (hot chocolate anyone?) using a stove- be sure to mix frequently as it will build up on the bottom.

Microwaves leave hot spots in milk and it is not recommended.

It will be okay...u can put half cold milk in the bottle and then put hot water from spicket in it , add some pancake syrup to sweeten it if ya want.
Make sure the child drinks the milk within 20 min or it will go sour.

Yes you can warm up 1% milk, but check temp. And 1% is better for you than whole milk as long as your baby is geting all his other vitamins and minerals through out the day.

Of course it's safe. Once he swallows it, it gets warmed up in his stomach anyway. Give him some hot chocolate (not TOO hot) when the weather gets chilly - he'll probably love it.
