I live in NYC and I believe it works here is because people have learned to respect each others cultures. The entire area is so culturally diverse there is no "majority" any more so we all co-exist. There are occasional minor flareups but they don't last long. NY'ers consider the subway the great equalizer. No matter how rich or how poor, we all ride the subway. On the subway the person next to you could be a doctor on his way to an emergency or a recent immigrant on his way to his minimum wage job. On the subway everyone is equal and we carry that thought up to the street.

Legalized immigration works because it adds competition to the labour market, which means firms are more willing to invest in the area, hence you get a booming local economy. The immigrants have money to spend, which a large percentage off is spent locally adding to the effect. I live in Leicester in the UK and it has always had a very high immigrant population, the recent addition of 7 countries to the EU has meant a new stream of eastern European workers has moved to Leicester in order to find work. This large and flexible workforce has led to an even greater number of companies willing to invest locally. As long as strong labour laws (min wage etc) are in place to safe guard anybody from exploitation, legalized immigration is a great benefit.
Protectionism does not work and that is why France and Germany's economies are in such dire straits.

It's beautiful isn't it. Maybe we all need to take a page out of NYC book. This is also a comment to Whip, for your information most illegal immigrants have fake social security numbers which account for a $56 billion surplus in Social Security now who's not paying taxes? If illegal immigrants aren't paying taxes why the surplus.

Thank the tax cuts from the Republican party, other wise NY would be in the toilet now. The legal immigrants contributed a lot to help.

You seem to have conveniently forgotten to include the word ILLEGAL anywhere in your "question".
Addition: My bad, you did say (Not). So to your question, I respond; Show proof that illegal immigrants are having a positive response on New York's economy.

Cheap labor (illegals) or slave labor does cause an economy to boom for a while, but is it right?
