Most kids that get ASBO's wear them like a badge of honor. They do very little good. Crime hasn't gone down since the inception of ASBO's. They are a joke. For the non-British out there, ASBO stands for Anti-Social Behavior Order. They were meant to deter crime. They haven't.

For your info, I don't read the Sun. The Guardian is what I read.

ASBO's I agree are a joke. I think they should bring back juvenile detention centres with no privileges. Hell bring back the "birch" that worked but was stopped because it wasn't "Politically Correct".
Well the birch is no worse than what the individual was given an ASBO in the first place. I love someones suggestion about 2 years national service. I believe they should be forced to serve in places like Iraq. They wanna get violent let them do it over there! Soon get their backsides whipped! Or build floating prisons 50 miles from the UK coastline stick all those with ASBO's on board.
Take them out of society for a VERY long time!
Don't get me started on this LOL....

No asbo would of stopped billy the kid. He so would be doing time right now. That's if the judge wasn't lenient on him, and ordered him to 20 hrs of community service and electronically tagged up to 7 days.

I think the idea is rather silly. A pensioner got an ASBO for keeping chickens in his back garden like he has been doing all his life. It is just that the Londoners bought houses all around him and complained about the smells, the muck and the rats.

There is no problem with the ASBOs themselves. They are a good idea. The problem comes with their enforcement. They are only successful if rigorously enforced with no second chance given. The individual needs to know that they are being watched and that breaking curfew etc will lead stright to the cells.

Stronger sentencing by courts will do nothing - most of these louts don't accept the possibility that they will be caught in the first place.

Asbos are useless, People only adjust if something is taken away from them, their liberties for instance because hey! they don't care for other peoples liberties!

ASBO's are a joke. what we need, are longer sentences, tougher prisons, and more police.
The prisons in our country are a JOKE! I know of people in jail who are having a holiday of a time (6 months) for GBH (Grevious Bodily Harm). They have televisions, pool tables, half decent food... prision should be a hell hole, otherwise its just more like a quick stop than punmishment! Take out all the niceties, and you can afford more prisons, tougher punishments for crimes, and all in all, a safer enviroment for the law abiding public!! HOW DIFFUCULT IS IT!! And its not like I'm saying "sod peoples human rights"; I'm simply saying the more you disrespect others human rights, the less rights you deserve!!!!
We need a change in our culture. we've become too soft, and too afraid!

This is one of Blair's "Flagship" policies. It was never meant to cut crime or help the public. It was just fantastic PR for the Government and made for some great headlines when they were first launched. But like with so many of New Labours 'initiatives' they just cannot be held to scrutiny.

ASBO's do not work. The government should tag them instead.
