my brother has got throat cancer,and must be taken to the hospital every day for 30 days.but each time he goes it cost 32.00 for a cab(thats one way)64.00 around trip.i live to far away to help him with getting there every day.it would cost more if i made the trip myself every day.i tried amercia cancer society but they have not been able to help,they said give us two weeks to try to find some one who would drive my brother.thats going to cost 640.00,thats alot of money to some one like myself living week to week with 4 kids of my own.i ask any one with any info on this matter please take a min. and help me and my family through a horrible time.thank you from the sinex family

Check with the social worker at the hospital or cancer clinic where your brother receives treatment. I recall that when my son was hospitalized for chemotherapy treatment the social workers had $25 credit cards from local gas stations to cover the cost of traveling. Whenever we needed them we got them. Our state also has a program to help patients with life threatening illness by reinbursing for miliege to and from treatment. You should check these programs out first.
There are social organizations and churches that provide this type of charity service. You do not say where you live or how far you are from where he needs treatment.
You should inquire to see if a local church might offer a transportation service for your brother.
You should also look at various organizations like the American Cancer Society which offers a program called 'Road to Recovery'. Road to recovery helps cancer patients with transportation needs in the community. You should call your local chapter to see if this is available:

You can also check with local cancer support groups as well as clubs like the Elks or Kiwanis.

Contact the hospital where he takes treatments. There must be some help you can receive from these agencies, so call the Cancer Association again. The squeaking wheel gets the oil
Also, some organizations offer a place to stay for people who need to be near the hospital when they are taking treatments and there are other hospices the hospital may know of.
Does your brother have a social worker at the hospital? You all should go and talk the the social worker and this person can hook you up to the right agencies, etc.
If all else fails contact the Red Cross and United Way

I think all these folks have given you wonderful advice so far. Is there anyway you can take your brother into your home and take him to chemo locally? I'm not sure how old your brother is but the cancer thing with a brother is rough as I've been there. He was past being helped with chemo though. What about a local home health agency? There are many charitable orginizations out there and as much money as churches rake in and big businesses like Wal-Mart, there should be some help to be had.

Does the hospital offer transportation? Contact the hospital or request a social worker or case manager to help or at least point you in the right direction. Also, contact a local church, there may be someone willing to offer a ride.

MOst cities have nursing companies that can visit a home as often as needed for very cheap because it is usually gov't funded. Also, Hospice probably has many suggetions for this situation.
