Theoretically nausea shouldn't be such a big issue anymore but it differs from person to person so there is no real way of telling whether you will be one of the "unlucky" ones . One of the "weapons" I used to fight my cancer and chemo side effects was my mind . I just refused to be broken by it . I shaved my head before my hair could fall out . I refused to be sick even when the naussea was soooooo bad I wanted just stick my head in a bucket . I faught it all the way to the end . Remember , drink lots of fluids (water , fruit juice) and take good vitamin and mineral supplements to keep your immune system as strong as possible . You wouldn't want to pick up a stomach "bug" or something during chemo . The trick I think , is to stay POSITIVE all the time and stay in control . My son has always handled high dose chemotherapy very well. I've wondered though if its not due to his age and overall health. The younger and healthier you are the easier it seems to be to tolerate chemotherapy. The anti-nausea meds worked well for him too.

He used zophran, kytril, beneadryl, and ativan during chemotherapy. When he is off chemo he doesn't use anything. At the moment he uses zophran and/or ativan, but is recovering rapidly (just coming off a week of cytoxan and topetecan). In fact he was well enough that hours after chemo he went to visit friends at a distant university.

He will only use something if he needs it.

I believe it is affecting everybody differently and on how they think about the chemo itself. I have a couple of friends who went to a heavy duty chemo and both of them never got sick once. One even gained weight on it, because she was eating all day long so her tummy wouldn't get upset. Both are doing fine now. Just think positive about the chemo.

Yes there are. Some people don't respond to the medication. We went through countless medications with my mother and they didn't work. Not a one. She got to sick to continue the chemo. But there are a lot of medications to try and so I think these days her case is rare.

Most people find the new drugs do the job quite well but still some people suffer that side effect. God Love them. Seems people are so different in how they respond to the drugs. I was so luck but I sure feel for those who do suffer that side effect.
