There are two questions in one. Capitalism has turned Christmas shopping into consumerism run amok. What would you propose as a new name for Christmas? The "Christ" in Christmas has already been removed by the capitalists. I know some of you will argue that Christmas is a pagan holiday anyway - which is OK.

Let's face it - Shops are putting up displays 2-3 months in advance. Santa shows up after Halloween, an athiestic, demonic and Satanic holiday. The Jews have Hanukkah where gifts are given for 8 consecutive days. The Muslims have Eid - whatever that means other than occurring after Ramadan. Kwanzaa was invented by a black power professor in the 1960's.

i totally agree with you on everything that you said, that is why my family celebrates the real meaning of Christmas which is Christ. The world has so corrupted this sacred holiday that it no longer carries with it any meaning!! the devil has done what he always does, taken Christ out and put something else in His place.

I think we should celebrate the birth of Jesus in September around the time of the Jewish new year= that is when he was born= it is hard to change a habit and traditon= I went to a big store and they had the huge inflattables w snow, santa and snow men= I said out loud = where is Jesus? They did have some really nice nativity scenes=it is still too commercial= D

1. Ho Ho Day

2. I think people should celebrate as suits them. Those who feel Christmas should be more Christ-centered should not participate in all the commercialism. Take the kids to church and have a rousing good time in the company of other Christians. But let those who enjoy Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, and Hermey the Dentist-wannabe enjoy their secular Christmas, too.

We celebrate his birth on December 25th. This is the way we have always celebrated for many many years.
Companies have put displays in their windows, merchandise on their shelves etc. yet for some years now they put it out earlier, even before Thanksgiving. We can wish for the older days when displays and things were put out after Thanksgiving but I do not think the corporate world will allow that. We can be Thankful in our own individual ways for being able to Celebrate his birth.

I agree, christmas is a joke. I fail to see the point in a meaningless holiday where everyone goes to the store to buy junk for each other that they don't really want anyway.

I agree. I think we should have a year long holiday and name it: Serve the Lord!

Why not stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and just be thankful for Jesus?
