One thing people notice in Vintage and Historical homes is that nothing matches, but ever thing looks so unique. If the colors clash, then paint or cover the offending piece, otherwise don't bother.

Absolutely not! Your daughter is right.
I have been helping a friend decorate and had to take him to a store and show him the difference between these 2 styles of furniture, because he was not understanding why they should not be mixed.
In decor, you want your room to flow, from fabrics, colors, artwork, accessories, the whole 9! If you have new furniture, the tables are a must. Otherwise your room will look half done.
I would remove the tables all together, before I just sat them against the sofa; and save up to get tables that truly compliment your furniture.
I can't stress enough, that you don't want your room to look tacky or thrown together. But, I sympathize with not having money to buy the tables, because re-decorating can be EXPENSIVE!

You might could purchase round pieces of plywood to top the Q.Anne end tables (put felt between the plywood and table to keep the original tables from being scratched) and cover your "new" end tables with round tablecloths that drop to the floor, in colors that compliment your new sofa and love seat.
You might could see if the legs on the tables could be swapped out with a plainer style to compliment the contemporary sofa/love seat.
Or you might go onto Craigslist and see if anyone is interested in trading contemporary style occasional tables for your traditional style tables.
Or, sell the oak pieces and go to Ikea and get some inexpensive but contemporary styled replacements (www.ikea.com).
Good luck!

Tie them together with accessories - pillows, picture frames,
knick-knacks, rugs, quilts, throws, artwork, lamps, whatever. You can do ANYTHING when decorating because decorating is a personal thing. Mix, match, old new, bright, muted, whatever you love and want to live with.

It's called eclectic. If you like it, who gives a fig what your daughter says.
