There is a whole science to reading a persons body language whether it be the way they stand or the way they do anything. It can tell you what they are thinking, if they are lying or not or what kind of attitude they have. It's a lot of fun.

It shows through in many ways. For example, if you stand straight and tall it tends to show that your are proud and strong. If you cross your arms it can show fear, or that you feel uncomfortable. Slouching indicates not caring. Tall but with shoulders hunched indicates fear, or that you feel uncomfortable. Etc.

I am a hunched shoulders person because I get picked on a lot. I cross my arms because it feels safer to stand that way. A friend of mine always tells me "Look me in the eyes, stand up straight. Now repeat after me, 'I'm happy and proud.'" And once I do that I can stand straight and tall.
I have a friend who is a straight and tall person, but he crosses his arms. He figgets a lot too, which also indicates uncomfortability.

An example is, when a person stands w/ shoulders slouched or back slightly hunched; it is often looked at as having low self esteem.
to walk with your head up, back straight, looking people in the eyes-shows confidence.

Sure if you slump, you might have a low self esteem (or big boobs :) ), if you stand with your arms crossed you are seen as withdrawn. Standing with your hands on your hips you could be viewed as bossy, etc.
