Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys at the same time. A dialog box appears that lists all programs that are open-there may be notes next to any that have stopped working. The box gives you the choice of either shutting down programs or restarting your computer.Shutting down programs is preferable.Click on the program you want to close, then click End Task. Close the dialog
box to see if your computer is working,if not, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete again, then try clicking Shut Down on the dialog box. Still not work- Press the computers reset. Turn off the power switch only as a last resort. Good luck.

Download the FREE http://pclinuxos.com and then boot with it in the CDrom drive. It will run in RAM disc.

You'll like it, and can click on the 'Install' icon on the desktop.

It includes 1900 games, applications, scientific programs... GIMP, and more. No need to check your Freedom of Choice, at the boot, like in those other OSes. Do like Microsoft. Run Linux.
