Who else found that episode of Law & Order: CI disturbing. Two sodiers back from Iraq getting engaged then the woman goes out not long before the wedding to blow off steam by getting drunk and having sex with strangers. Is this an exageration or are things actually like that? Now that women are much more prominant in the military are they now replacing the prostitues that soldiers used to visit in past wars? Then they bring back this odd sense of moral values back them. Also, is there anything wrong with this?

Sex is as old as mankind, but in Iraq the soldiers there are not outta control. They have much greater things to be concerned with than wild hedonistic trysts. The military is a microcosm of any society as a whole. Soldiers of all countries come from the general populace, so what happens in the military is indicative of what happens in a country's mainstream although on a smaller scale. I work at a large Army installation, and while the media may want to create an image of a sexually aggressive woman, the reality is there are a TON of sexual assaults being committed by our MALE soldiers against our FEMALE soldiers during deployments. It's a big problem, even when they are in the States. Date rapes, gang rapes, you name it. I don't know if the real numbers will ever be reported, but certain deployed locations are out of control. Plus, during the first wave Internet access was not really monitored. Huge amounts of internet porn crap. Now, there are soldiers coming home and experimenting with bestiality - not kidding - problems with child sexual assaults, overall deviant sexual behavior. When this war is finally over, buckle up, we are going to have a lot of stuff to deal with. Having said that, I have so much respect for anyone who is willing to risk their lives in the military. There are amazing, noble people serving. It's just such a horrible situation, the deployments are so long and frequent, I don't know how anyone could go through it and stay sane.

I am not sure about what US soldiers are doing in Iraq. If past tales out of Vietnam are any example, then perhaps it is best we do not know what is going on. On the other hand, for some reason, Canadian troops are going through condemns at a record rate in Afghanistan, and they are largely confined to base!

This is an exaggeration. Just like in any neighborhood or any large city one can find any type of girl in the Army. If they come back with an odd sense of moral values, they went there with them. No they are not a replacement for prostitutes. Furthermore, to the guy with the answer before me.."Superior" you have absolutely no respect for your self or this countries finest citizens. No, most military women do not sleep with each other. That is ignorant and disrespectful of you to accuse an entire group of women in such a way.

No, It's just the way things are. I wouldn't call it any sense of moral values, perhaps they are just trying to fit in, in a predominantly male career choice? I can't answer for them, but, I would say that the media stretches alot of truths.

The last 10 years in the military we started getting woman in our outfit. They are just as good and just as bad as the men.

First if you put 300,000 people from all thoughout society in one place you will get people with no morals, people with christian morals, people with inbetween morals.
So in the military there are those that fall in every part of society just like in any cityl
But no, most military are not sleeping with just everyone, one on one affairs may happen just like it does at mcdonalds or at our police department,

WHAT?!?
I know of guys who have gotten "Dear John" letters while in Iraq. Women who would do that to their men, while serving their country & risking their life are pretty much heartless.
More times than not, though I think there is a good # of us girls who will stand by their man.
