Well because the old testament begins at the very beginning of time and before Jesus and the new testament is life after Jesus. They are both at very different times.

Chucky,
They really are not so different when you begin to study it closer and deeper. It shows not only the history but the foundation of our Christian beliefs. There are bad examples as well as good but there was a "necessity of a change". The Jewish nation started from a small number of folks and the old covenant shows us how God dealt with and loved and forgave them over and over again for their sins and wrongdoings. For every type and shadow there's a new covenant fulfilment and parallel and both old and new covenant point to Christ. I.E. What the priests wore in the tabernacle is what Jesus Christ our High Priest is shown wearing in the new covenant in New Jerusalem and it all has significance. The saints in Revelations are also shown wearing white linen robes due to the sacrifice of Jesus the Lamb of God.
Jesus quoted old covenant scripture. It helps if you study it from the perspective of the Jewish culture. Many of their laws were civil (judicial). As for the multiple wives thing, Jesus raised the status of women (the women's lib doesn't know it) from that of property and let them know that they had strayed from God's intent of the law given them because first he made Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve or we wouldn't have any so-n-so begat so-n-so and life would have ceased to exist! I think God allowed holy men of old to do a lot of things then since Israel had not become a nation and then when they were birthed as a nation, there was time and room to grow as God kept revealing more of himself to men who had a heart for Him. He didn't make a harem for Adam either by the way. I think our focus in Bible studies should be to learn how to live righteous and holy so we will know how to get to heaven. I use to trip up on a lot of stuff I had heard and read concerning old covenant. Put it into perspective and understand the reasons some of those things were put in there. If a woman is a possession and another man coveted what belonged to another man, that was the greater sin, like David. Rich men felt it was a sign of wealth in their day and also they were trying to increase their genetic numbers. They felt if they had many children then they were blessed of God. You can see that even then it caused jealousy and other problems. I'm glad Jesus set the record straight and made a new and better way for us all to be kings and priests. (So, go eat your tithe!) He also made us all equal (not in authority) at the foot of the cross and let us to know that in Heaven there is neither male nor female but we shall be as the angels in heaven.
P.S. As for breaking the "laws", God's moral laws will always stand. There is still a penalty for sin which is death. Our judicial system was based upon these righteous judgments. Some preachers try to put us Gentiles back into bondage again to certain ceremonial laws. The only two we need worry about most are loving God with all we've got and our neighbors as ourselves because there's no law against that! All the law and prophets are fulfilled in those two. Jesus is the end of the law and the law was the schoolmaster leading us to Him. God still hates sin as much as ever so just because folks aren't stoned to death for sins but have opportunity to be forgiven while they are living doesn't mean they will get by with it. "Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." One excellent place to assist your queries is at StudyLight.org. under History and the Temple articles. It will eventually begin to make wonderful sense to you! God bless your search for truth!

You mean Old TESTAMENT not testimate. So different because Jesus reverse the teachings. And Christians reverse it further. Having hundred wives was allowed by God but not His idea. It was a tradition of leaders before. One way of having control of the Kingdom or an Empire is to marry the daughter or sister of the warring tribe to minimize number of enemies and/or to enlarge the number of soldiers and loyal subjects.
BTW, it is MORMONS and not Morman.

The OT and NT are not as different as you suggest. A superficial reading of the OT appears harsh, but God granted a great deal of latitude (mercy) for the OT covenant people. Jesus explained why in response to a more specific question, but it goes for a lot of what was tolerated:
"And Jesus answered and said to them, 'Because of the hardness of your heart...'" (Mark 10:5).

Concerning the multiple wives issue, for example -- If you recall that King David had many wives. But when his heart was converted, he "put away" all his wives but one. For God did not give Adam many wives, but only one. So, God, in the OT, did not want polygamy, but only tolerated it, for "the hardness of [their] heart."

Remember also, God's thrown in the OT was called the "mercy seat," not the thrown of wrath. God never condoned murder or any injustice; he did, at times use people to bring about punishment upon a corrupt people; that's not murder.

The "old" Testiment states The Law...The New Testiment fulfills The Law and establishes the formation and governing of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Also, and most important, The Path to Salvation is clearly marked out. There is only One Way...The Way, The Truth, and The Life.

Jesus was preaching to people not to adhere to the old ways, but to leave them. He wanted people not to abandon the law, but to stop being enslaved to it. The law was never what was important, according to jesus. What was important was love.

Still is. And that changed the tenor of the bible, from a record of death and war to a record of love and peace. Jesus' presence on earth did not end all wars for the jewish people, or make a peaceful life for christians- quite the opposite! But the New Testament is not a record of strife and material things, but of joy and hope and on development of spiritual wealth.

Jesus changed the way we think about religion.

The Old Testament is pre-grace. The New Testament is 'The Age of Grace' which continues until this day and until the 'Rapture' when it will be post-grace. See the 'Left Behind' series. There are only two ways to live.

The old and the new testament agree on the subjects that you are speaking on, you have just taken them out of context.

Except the one on 100 wives, no where in the bible does God say this is acceptable. People did it, but that did not mean that God said it was OK.

i don't think they are as different as they seem on the surface, God never advocated mult wives and if you read carefully the men that partook in those things had nothing but problems. the two testaments were written to different groups of people for different purposes and in different time. when Christ hit the scene things changed because now we have a mediator and we no longer needs to sacrifice animals and things. Christ is the difference

In the Old Testament folks were living under the Law.

In the New Testament we live under God's grace. We are covered by the blood of Jesus. We have out own self will, God shows us the right path and anything other is obviously the wrong path. We choose who to follow, or believe in. We are not Told how to believe and who to worship.
