Well, that's a complicated question :) , but for now, suffice it to say that:
1) The Bible answers a lot of questions about the world, how it exists, and more importantly, why it exists.
2) The Bible is consistent, not only within itself (and it has 66 books written by dozens of different people -- now THAT's an accomplishment :) , but is also consistent with period history books and modern day archiological discovery. In other words, the people the Bible refers to actually existed, and the places/events described in the Bible actually existed as described within the Bible. So it's historically, archiologically, and internally sound. Many a person has set out to prove the Bible was erronious; not only do they fail, many become believers. :)
3) It promotes a better way to live. If you read it with an open mind, and you see the truths it contains and how they apply to your life, you will see your life begin to change. There's something about the power in this that lets you know somehow that it's not you making those changes...
4) It introduces you to God Himself. It tells you about the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, tells of his pre-ordained plan for your life, and most importantly, shows you how much He loves you and despirately wants a relationship with you.
Please take the opportunity to read the Gospels -- Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John. You'll begin to get the picture much more clearly than I can express it here. Good luck to you. :)

One thing the Bible doesn't have that other works of fiction have, is an author (or authors) admitting that it is indeed fiction. When someone writes a book and doesn't say it is fiction it doesnt get a fiction lable. It gets text book or biography or whatever. Had any of the writers of the Bible said "I dont mean this to be taken literally" nobody would.
Now, there are indeed books written that aren't true, to be fair, but the author says it is (Book of Mormon or Dienetics for example). Not having the lable "fiction" doesn't mean you have to believe it, but unless the author says it is, some people will take it seriously.

1. Definition of a God conflicts with what God does in the bible.
2. It makes sense at the time because there were no police or fair and organized government. It helped keep the people in line.
3. It was a way to make money. (still is)
4. It has an 800 year old guy that hears voices from a burning bush.
5. God says do not murder, yet he is the worlds worst murderer in the world.
6. a 600 year old guy built a boat out of wood the size of manhattan. (wood is not strong enough to build a structure that big).
7. God broke more commandments when he took Josephs wife.
8. Religion is supposed to be good, yet it inspired 9/11.
9. It inspires people to steal from the old and gullible.
10. The bible says the perfect existance is us acting as sheep.
These are just 10 reasons out of thousands...

Simple fact is that many of the people places and events spoke of in the Bible have been proved as historical fact. Fiction has no bases in fact but is build upon the imagination. If only one thing in the Bible can be proved as fact that takes it out of the relm of fiction.
Doesn't matter if you choose to believe that part that takes faith to believe or not, if you deny the historical facts then that is mental laziness. That would be a kin to looking at a building and saying that you don't believe in the builder. So you never saw the builder, you never saw it underconstruction, or even the plans that were used. None of that matters, building means builder, creation means creator. To believe otherwise is to believe soully in choas.
Nothing came by accident other than distruction.

Because there is MUCH proof.
See Answers in Genesis.
Read "Evidence That Demands A Verdict", "More Evidence That Demands A Verdict" and "New Evidence That Demands A Verdict" by Josh McDowell.
The Bible can be read online at Biblegateway.

If it wasn't impossible to believe, then it wouldn't require faith, would it?
That's the point. Faith.
But on our side, the proof is in the text itself. So many of the prophecies contained in the Bible have already been fulfilled. It gives one pause to contemplate and meditate on the rest of the Bible.
