I'm gonna graduate next month n' am considering the Jet Program to teach english to Japanese kids. Problem is:

1. I've never been abroad and am a little scared, okay a lot scared

2. I want to correspond with someone whose done the program recently

3. I'm wondering if it's a "sham" or the real deal - I don't wanna get sold into sex slavery or anything like that, lol

4. how can I make the program work for me, so that I get into the best school and housing situation?

P.S. please don't suggest reading the Jet website cuz I did that already! I'm looking for personal experience with this issue....

Hi! I'm japanese so I'm not sure how those foreign-teachers felt about Japan... but this is my experience.
My dad is a politician so he took care of some ALTs before. (ALT: i think you may be called ALT(Assistant Language Teacher?) in Japan) so I got chance to talk/be frineds with them (because I speak English a little better). I think the Jet program is government-related program so this is Safe "the real deal". Don't worry about sex slavery..lol Japanese are very polite to Foreigners^^. ALTs usually get a year contract and good salary. I think that depends on the city you are put but at least my opinion, my friends got very good salary and a good apartment for way less rent fee. (some of them were sending money to their parents and travel all the time!!/the city paid for rent too!) Some women ALTs also got a driver to go to the work!! You know Japanese are sooo overprotective and too polite..lol I'm sure thats hard to live in foreign countries, most of them LOVE it but some didn't... It depend on you! in my personal opinion, "try it!!" You never know till u actually done!
