I was in a bad car accident shortly after September 11th. I suffered from whiplash, and ever since then, my neck pops and cracks loudly when I move my ears towards my shoulders. It feels like my neck is locking up, and I have to pop it to release the pressure. I have seen chiropractors, and it helped, but my neck seems to always go back. They said is was due to torn ligaments that healed incorrectly, and now my spine is out of adjustment. This is a very frustrating problem, and I am tired of living with this uncofortable dull pain. Is there any type of surgery or maybe something else that could fix this problem? Thanks - a guy in pain.

see a neurologist..............
not some duck chiropractor who may do far more harm than any good.

Neurologist can determine from mri's and testing exactly what damage has been done..
you can end up...with severe spinal damage resulting in nerve damage that no doctor can help if you don't get the right treament and chiro don't know diddle about nerve damage and spinal cord and cervical fusion,

AS a LAST resort consider cutting your body open. I would try things that lengthened the spine and muscles of your neck and back. Restorative yoga really, really helps. Massage too! Most people think its a luxurious thing people indulge in, but that's simply not true. Your body needs to be massaged and manipulated for healthy muscles, joints, circulation and well being! Your insurance company may pay as well if you were in a car accident..good luck.

I take it you have stopped seeing a chiropractor?

You can't just "fixed" and expect to stay like that forever, in order to keep your body healthy and your neck in good shape, you need to attend a chiropractor regularly. As long as your spine is in good shape (no doubt your chiropractor will determine when that is) you should see them about once every 3 weeks to keep everything in check...

Seriously.. it works!
