Anyone can take a pulse rate, this is done by putting pressure on an artery, thats where your pulse can be felt . Put your thumb on the side of a wrist and time the pulse.

children between 1 and 10 years old: 70 to 120 bpm

a slow pulse, called bradycardia
a fast pulse, called tachycardia
an irregular pulse, with beats coming at varying intervals

yes you can take there pulse,
Well 6 seconds work alot better, what you do it put your fingers (no thumb ) on your neck or wirst. count each beat whille someone payas attention to the 6 seconds it should be from 4-7 thats healthy if its higher the person needs to work out more. or something to get there heart in better shape. If its below you probaly need medical attention. The reason you don't use your thumb when taking a pulse is because your thumb has its own pulse, no it would not be all that accurate to take your pulse from your thumb Its no where near your heart. and it doesnt seam as accurate.
I wouldnt recommend 15 seconds its too long if the students forget to count a few it could be really inaccurate. Also 6 seconds it alot better so you can tell them the numbers they should be to be healthy
I hope I answered your question
Good day to you.
