good works to get to heaven? when the bible says good works has NOTHING to do with it? i dont understand why mormons say the read and believe the bible but they honestly beleieve other things? i can get saved and accept christ into my heart and im going to heaven whether i do a lot of good things or not. all you have to do is be saved thats it! so why do mormons think other wise? wher ein the BIBLE does it say u have to "be good" to get into heaven? yes you should do good works, and be christ like but that just happens when you know his love, its not a requirment.

Nice to hear fro Cami, however, according to Mormons if The Book of Mormon diagrees with The Holy Bible they believe The Book of Mormon to be the final authority.

Funny, my answer on your other works question agrees entirely with this post. I am Mormon. We honestly believe good works and being Christlike is a result of receiving Grace--the two go hand in hand.

Why do other faiths believe, like a Baptist woman I know (family member to be exact), that "once in Grace always in Grace"? She told her husband she could shoot him because she was in Grace. You just can not tease the two apart and you can fall from Grace.

I think you are confusing someone trying to "earn" their place in the afterlife through works without Grace (or accepting Christ.) No Mormon has ever taught or believed that one--no matter what you have been lead to believe.

Marysia said it best.

We don't think it is ONLY good works...you are mis-understanding a lot. I suggest you talk with some missionaries and get all your questions out in the open...they can help answer them.
"All you have to do"??? give me a break. If it was THAT easy, why would we even be here??? That was more of Satan's plan - everyone choose god and that's it...
Also, there are lots of places the bible talks about being judged on our works...but usually people like you won't accept those because YOU don't interpret it that way.

actually he bible says faith without works is dead, just as works without faith....

it takes both as when you become a Christian you want to do good works - it's two-fold.

if you are saved - and kill, maim and are cruel to other people - you are sinning and thus, you need to repent andn ot doit again -hence then doing only good actions (aka works)

mormon's believe you have to believe andbe baptized if not, no matter what youo do you will not move forward. if they didn't they wouldn't baptize living people in honour of those that are dead.

(here is only a small sampling of where we get that you must walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
James 2:24-25
by works not faith alone a man is justified for faith without works is dead.
1 Tim 1 -- giving laws is an action - following the laws - those are also our works
Col 3:14-17 - whatever you do DO in the name of the Lord (works, action verb)
Eps 5:15 - prior and post is good to but - this is how to walk the way of God - that also a verb/work)

Mormons don't only read the bible but they also go by the book of Mormon maybe that is where they got the idea that good works gets you into heaven

It does not take good works to get to heaven. The Atonement of Jesus Christ covers little children and those who are not capable of understanding or committing sin. The rest of us are accountable for our actions, however, Our job is to learn about that Atonement of Jesus Christ and apply it to our lives. Just because you have faith and get baptized doesn't mean you are done learning and growing. There is a concept called "enduring to the end" and it involves a commitment to continuing to live God's commandments and serve those around us. It means that we have taken Christ's name upon us - it is part of the baptism covenant. Have a happy day.

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior you are forsaking your will for his will, you are letting go of your life and accepting the task of living your life for God, yes God will judge you according to your works, Christ did all things good he was sent to give us an example of how to live that is pleasing to God.

Your works being what you did in the name of Jesus, if it was as simple as what you are saying I am positive there would be no debate everyone would be saved.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I can tell you we do not believe that good works is only what it takes to get to heaven. Faith and good works, both. The Bible is very clear in that point. We believe in trying our best to live according to the commandments of God and try to emulate the Savior's example.

Any religion which preaches a Gospel which is other than the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is not of God. We are warned in the Bible to be aware of these people as like "ravening wolves" The Bible is clear on this issue, We are justified by faith alone and not a combination of faith plus works. I recently posted a question wherein it was poined out that we are all born physically with the condemnation of sin in us and its this inner condition which sends us to hell unless it is addressed. Our works can't address this condition as there is no room for our works in Gods' plan of salvation for us. The Bible states that "By the works of the law shall no flesh be justified" Why? Works can not correct the inner condition which eventually destroys the soul in hell. This would be similar to giving someone a cup of poison and then asking them to do physical exercise so that they will feel better. Their efforts will not help their inner condition. I like your question as we are told that in the last days man will be ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth and that also men would depart from the truth and follow after false doctrine. One wonders just how the simple Gospel message could have become so "contaminated" The book of Revelations is Gods last word to mankind and anyone claiming to have had visions etc., such as the founder of the Morman religion should have been knowledgable enough from the reading of the scriptures to know that his vision was not in fact from the Lord. We are also warned in the Bible not to beleive everything which appears to be a miracle as Satan is capable of working them as well and thereby deceive the masses. Note in Revelations where during the tribulation Satan will give power to a statue and cause it to speak and people will hail him as God!

From what your question reads, I guess you must have been a practicing Mormon to know all that, huh? Exactly- you weren't. And if you believe what the Bible says, you should know that it's not your place to judge people
