Long story short: im planning on asking this guy out but ive been told that i should flirt a little first. How?

Eye contact is the thing.
Make eye contact with him, and then give him a big smile.
If nothing happens after this has occured a couple of times or so, then speak to him, and say that you have noticed him looking at you, and would he be interested in a date.

Just ask him lots of questions about himself. Guys love to talk about themselves. Answer his questions too, but make sure not to take up more than 50% of the "air time". Don't be fake though - when you do end up together, you don't want to have to continue a lie you created when you first started talking (like that you love Country music when you really hate it, or that you're a vegetarian when you're really a meatlover).
If it seems appropriate, touch him lightly on the arm when you laugh at his joke or accidently brush your leg against his if you're sitting next to him.

Don't go overboard with flirting. If you want to ask him out, do it. You don't want to send him mixed signals. The only thing I'll suggest is maybe talk to him and be friendly with him more...that way he'll be comfortable around you.

Just smile really big and keep your eyes on him the whole time and act like you are hanging on every word! Bat your eye lashes and play with your hair and wear some sexy smelling perfume.
