There are so many different bread types, it would be great to see how many types you lot prefer. I love the big baps with cheese and onion mixed in and melted over the top. A ton of butter (my poor heart) and slice of ham and tomato as a filling.
What about you lot? Favourite bread? Favourite filling?

There's a bakery near my old house that does a gorgonzola-walnut boule (boule = round loaf). That one is fantastic. The first runner-up would be one of those really soft baguettes from the supermarkets in Spain that are constantly being taken out of the oven in huge batches. When I lived in Barcelona I used to stop by the supermarket on the way home, get a small baguette fresh from the oven, and eat the whole thing between the supermarket and my front door!

Fresh, warm Turkish pide bread with hummus and good olive oil. It's nothing at all like the pita bread you buy in British supermarkets which is loosely based, I think, on Greek pita bread (I may be slandering the Greeks!). It's a round bread with a knobbly upper surface, is slightly sweet and is covered with sesame seeds.

Or sweet Yemeni milk bread (is it like Pakistani shir bread, which a friend from Islamadad raved about?) which a Yemeni friend once gave me, freshly made by his wife. Served dripping with butter, it was one of my best food experiences.

Still, every bread has its place. Italian breads, normally not good with butter and jam as the English tend to eat bread (I'll exclude pane puglese which is very good all'inghlese), is perfect for mopping up savory dishes; roti perfect for eathing dal with; soda bread ideal with stew or just with butter. Of English breads, teacakes with butter are my favourite, but even Homepride has its place under a Welsh Rarebit.

A nice fresh baguette is always nice, but if I have to buy pre-packaged, a nice Honey 7 Grain will do.
