grocery stores don`t have it. any ideas???

Clam Base is like bullion, not a spice. here:

It is a paste used to make stocks. I am now seeing Chicken Base in grocery stores, but I doubt seafood base (a great substitution) is available there yet.

I get my bases at either Sam's or Costco. Look in teh spice aisle, in squatty plastic jars w/ screw-on lids.

Clam base is clam boullion paste. Like those chicken or beef cubes. If unavailable, try clam juice.

I've never heard of it referred to as "clam base". Might you be thinking of Old Bay seasoning?
