In that book didn't God and the devil have a bet going to see if Job would curse God?

God wiped out (or let the devil wipe out) Job's entire family and his herds of sheep/cattle and ruin his crops... Job really got screwed with that deal.

There will probably be a couple of people here that will mention that God returned everything to Job that had been taken.

Just how did God return Job's dead family?

He made a new one. Had several daughters.

Of course, I never understood why God had to prove anything to Satan. But maybe is to show future generations a lesson about devotion?

He gave him a new family. No to the first part. God knew what would happen. It wasn't much of a gamble. And it made Job a better person. Even though, yes at the time he was pretty upset about it. he trusted God and it worked out in the end.

Job's Faith is what God was allowing the devil to test because God knew that Job would hold his faith and continue to love God through all the tribulations of destruction the devil put him through.
It was the test of Job's faith and he came through loving God more than ever.

Gambling?....I think you need to look outside the box when you try to understand the meanings of the bible.
