Our town has a winter wonderland parade every year. My fiance and I always take our children. The parade happens to be tonight. It starts in 3 minutes and I just found out 20 minutes ago that it is tonight. I'd take my girls except my fiance went into work tonight to get some overtime for Christmas. He has our minivan which is our only vehicle. Am I overreacting about not being able to take them?

I live in a small town that doesn;t have taxis. I could always walk with my girls but it's like 40 degrees outside. I don't want them to get sick. I'm pretty sure my kids don't even remember going last year because they weren't even 1 and 2 then. Oh well. We'll watch Elf instead.

Believe me honey I know how you feel. I think its actually more disappointing for us then the kids. The other day my daughter had a school function she wanted to go to but my son was sick and I didn't feel like he should be around the other kids. My daughter was disappointed that night but was over it by the next day... I'm still not over it and feel really guilty. Don't worry hun there will be more things to take them to this holiday. Maybe you can put in a Christmas movie and watch it with them. Everyone get in PJ's and throw blankets and pillows all over the floor turn out the lights and make popcorn!!! My daughter loves when we do that and it might make them forget about the missed parade

Oh I know how that feels. You know you want to take them but come on be realistic by time your man gets home with the van and you get the kids ready it will probably be half over.Don't worry your kids will understand and hey to make it up to them you could take them for a drive around your town/city to look at houses with really good decorations I know that was my favourite thing when I was a kid.Try to relax it's not the end of the world and your kids know your a good mom and by getting so upset about this I can tell your a good mom your just pushing yourself too hard to be super mom. And it's OK to take the cape off for a night.Lol

If you are upset and showing negative emotions Im sure this is more disturbing to them than not getting to see a parade. Make some paper snowflakes to decorate your place with and listen to Christmas music. Besides at least he went to work to get some overtime to make Christmas 2006 a better one for you and the girls.

Maybe you and the girls can make cookies or popcorn tonight and later make a special time to go through your town and look at all the decorations or plan some other special occasion for your whole family.

Its normal to feel bad about not taking the kids. If your stressed due to some other reason, like what the other moms might think than yes its stupid. I'm sure the kids will understand that you forgot and that there will be other opportunities for other fun things.

I don't think you're overreacting by being upset, but you shouldn't make this a big issue. The holiday season should be about your children, not about you, and I suspect this tradition means much more to you than it does to them.

I can relate to how you feel. You always want your kids to do simple, special things that they will remember in years to come. I took my grandkids to a Dickens Christmas last year and I think I had more fun watching them have fun. I am sorry you arent going to get to take them but I do understand. Is there someone that you could go with?????

It's called disappointment. It happens. Perhaps there's another parade coming up in your area.

It's not your fault you just found out about it, and it's not his fault either. Don't be mad, just let the girls know they can go next year. Sometimes things don't work out. Frankie say RELAX
