Ok, I have an alcohol problem, and I know the first answer I get will be to stop drinking and become sober. However, I just absolutely cannot see myself stopping my weekly trips to the bars. I live in a college town, and already I no longer drink outside of bars (like at football games, for example), and the bars are pretty much the only place to meet up with friends and meet girls. My problem is that I have no control over how much I drink (I know, alcoholic) and I will order drinks until the bars close. Typically, I black out about an hour or even longer sometimes before the bars close, and I get into trouble, I am sometimes rude, I get into fights, I have gotten arrested, and sometimes, I appear just fine and sober (although I cannot remember anything). Does anyone have any advice over how I could control my alcohol intake once I am drunk, and prevent black outs? Please don't just tell me to stop drinking, that is in the works, but I need an immediate solution to this problem.

Go out later than usual, don't do shots, just drink beer (no mixed drinks), and wait awhile between drinks, like fifteen or twenty minutes. That should work, especially if your a heavy drinker you can drink beer all night and not black out, but by the end of the night should be feelin' pretty good. Good Luck! Stay out of trouble!

First off it sounds like you are an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a problem that can fortunately be treated through prescribed drugs and rehab. If I was you I would go to a doctor, physiologist, or even the clergy and tell them what you just told me and get advice from them. You have to be serious about it if you would like a change and listen to your help. One thing you could try is stop drinking alcohol and start drinking sparkling water or water at the bar. The black out the way you described it sounds very bad. It could worsen as you abuse it more. I might even lose your eyesight eventually. Good luck in your problems.

Learn to control your drinking. Alcohol doesn't hit your system instantly so don't buy drinks back to back wait 15 minutes then go back to the bar and get another one. If that doesn't work try going out later so you have less time to buy drinks. Try figuring out the stages of being intoxicated.

You will have to drink less. Or you will have to tell the bartenders in the bars you go to to stop serving you no matter what after a set limit.

Eat!!!! and eat while your drinking. Just munch on stuff, it helps to absorb the alcohol. It wont stop you from getting drunk but it might delay the affects. Good luck and try it!

Your solution as it stands, is that there is no solution. You will not change and will continue in the behavior you expressed.
There is no immediate solution for you.
I am just being realistic, not mean.
