Your body's metabolism - energy/calorie burning - adjusts constantly. So, by sleeping too much and not getting exercise, you are setting your body's thermostat very low. This may just be a phase that you are going through, but you need to try to find activities to occupy yourself to keep from sleeping too much. Make sure that you are sleeping at appropriate times, by 10:00 p.m. and up by 7:00 a.m. at the latest most nights. If you are still tired and cannot control it - you need to ask your mom to see a doctor and have your thyroid checked just to be safe. An underactive thyroid makes you feel tired constantly.
Good luck.

Sleeping if you need to is a very good thing. You may want to mention it to a doctor if you sleep ALOT, because it could be a sign of mono or a few other things (I think). Also, it could be a sign that you don't keep a very regular sleep schedule. I think for school age children, sleeping a lot is common, because teenagers usually have body clocks that are tuned to waking up later in the evening, but schools start very early.
And it's true that sometimes when you sleep even though you could have just as easily gotten up that it makes you feel groggy for a long time and you could have avoided this by getting up.
The only reason it would be bad for your health is if you don't get enough exercise.

Sleep is a necessity, but if you find yourself sleeping too much you may be depressed because sleep is also a hiding place for those who are trying to escape from reality. it can also tire you out so that you feel more exhausted when you get up than you did when you went to bed. When I use the term too much that means too much for you personally because everyone doesn't require the same hours of sleep. Honestly consider what I said, then you can decide for yourself if you have a problem.

Some people just need more sleep. The problem is if you would rather sleep than do things like hang out with friends, or go to social events and things. Also, if your unable to wake up for school or work, it can be a huge problem. Otherwise, sweet dreams!

The doctors say a teen needs 12 hours of sleep a day, far to many teens including mine don't get enough sleep.
When I was a teen I slept a lot too. Now I'm an adult I only get 6 to 7 hours a day and I'm fine.

It is never bad to sleep a lot. Sleeping recharges your brain and helps you in your day. Next time your sister lectures you, tell her to stuff it.
