The ones i ordered were hard. I thought tiramisu was had soft ladyfingers.

I've seen both kinds, so your ladyfingers aren't malfunctioning, they're just different. As long as the wafers are thin enough, when you make the tiramisu, the lady fingers will soak up some of the liquid and soften. It tends to make a cakier tiramisu when the lady fingers are hard like that, rather than a liquidy, pudding type.

No, they are rather firm. Not as crisp as biscotti, but not as soft as angel food cake. This is why they are excellent to dip into espresso when making tiramisu: they don't get soggy.

For Tiramasu, they should be *firm* (but not crunchy). The ingredients will mosten the ladyfingers. If they were spongy....would become too soggy.
